Solid album. Not bad, but nothing special either. The beats are interesting and unique like usual, but nothing much stands out.
I love this step in Yachty’s development. While I hate the kind of drill beats on this album, everything else sounds amazing and kind of mysterious. James Blake has an amazing voice which positively contributed to just about every song. This is a solid album.
Jev really shows what he could be in this album. He show all his potential in this one and I can’t wait for his next project. While not every song is that moving, there are some really cool songs here. It’s clear he has a lot of fun making this music, as seen on the last song where he says “I just wanna rock fuck the hoes…imma rap” on a fast paced beat. I think that it’s safe to say that Jev is up next.
Little things I liked: I like that after the pretty ... read more
As a Redman fan, this album gave me a lot of my two favorite Redman vibes: feeling cool, and feeling tough. This album has some throwbacks to Tonight’s Da Night which could be seen as desperate because in most circumstances, as a lot of artists like to go back to connect to their best song as an act of desperation. However, the use of the samples of the song in this album are just an interesting throwback that adds a lot to the album. A very satisfying listen.
Love the production throughout the album. Still early on in Navy Blue’s career, but he really shines on this one.
Ooh this gives me chills listening to it. Beautiful sounds on this album which are real easy to fall in love with.
I’ve tried a few different ways of wording how I feel about this album, but it honestly is just very hard to describe. It leaves me speechless, wanting to enjoy every moment and tune. If you haven’t listened to this album, I would recommend going on a late night hike with a few friends, finding a nice spot to camp for the night, and just turn this album on.
First LP and EP + some other amazing hidden songs. Fleet Foxes creates a unique song that really hits close to home.
GKMC is only Kendrick’s third album, and peaks higher than any other rapper ever has. Even The skits are amazing This album hits in all the right places. Some songs go hard: Backseast Freestyle, m.A.A.d city
Some songs are beautiful: Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe, Money Trees
Some songs sound like what the night sounds like if you know what I mean by that: Swimming Pools, The Art of Peer Pressure, Sherane a.k.A Master Splinter’s Daughter
Some songs sound like the city, I guess ... read more
As a Logic fan, this album does it for me. While I’ve never heard of any of the features artists (except for Joey and Nora Jones), they compliment Logic really well. The skits are pretty rough and painstakingly long, almost like they’re trying to replicate Kendrick on GKMC. Instead of having an extremely diverse tone like in his other albums, with songs that seem mashed together, College park remains steady, with interesting and actually connected songs. The production is really fun ... read more
Album goes hard. Definitely a top five 90s rap album for me. This album almost hurts to listen to, but in the best way possible. With the sinful production and great vocals, the whole sound really just blends together beautifully. This is GZA’s standout performance.
A really abstract production style on this album which is unlike almost all modern rap music. The way this albums flows is engaging and I was excited to hear the next track on my first listen.
Favs: Soundcheck, Bad Dreams Are Only Dreams
You can see the development of Westside Gunn in this album. The sound and his flows are still in early stages, but he still delivers on this one. Some songs go on for way too long, (Gun Go) and just kinda lose their effect and bores the listener. This album is long too and just doesn’t pop as much as Gunn’s other music does.
Favs: ‘06 Shit, Lord of War (Intro), Leezy Freestyle
Least favs: Gun Go,
I don’t know if Cudi has lost his damn mind, but no song’s first bar should be “act like my poo don’t stink“. Most of these songs are an unbearable listen. What he did with x was awful and this is just truly a disgrace. It does have a few good tracks like the one with Travis Scott but outside of that this is torture to listen to.
One of my personal favorite albums. the storytelling and tone of this albums is blessed.
Positives: amazing storytelling, chilling production, and you can feel the soul coming out of Kendrick. A no-miss album
Negatives: track list feels out of order, Only 2 Amazing songs (FEAR and DUCKWORTH) on the album which is good, but not for Kendrick’s standards.
Top 3: DUCKWORTH, FEAR, FEEL
Bottom three: GOD
