So much raw emotion poured into 8 tracks. 12 Stout Street has to be the darkest and emotionally charged intro over ever heard and the whole project is like that. Definitely a unique album.
After revisiting Dijon’s debut masterpiece, I went into this album knowing he was the glue that put that album together. His first solo debut is a strong one as he perfectly blends 80’s rock and r&b in a dark but atmospheric style. Visually and sound this guy nails it perfectly and I hope more in the future he really lets his vocals shine more on the tracks.
Favourite song: Are You Looking Up
This album has me in a trance. Right now shoegaze is so popular that you could say it’s oversaturated but I really recommend this album. Best way to describe it is it’s like a hardcore dream pop record. It’s beautiful and has me in a chokehold on repeat listens. Just pure comfort and I’m looking forward to hearing more from this band.
Classic Album Review: 10 years later and this is an essential album of the last decade. Imo this project should be in the same conversation as Madvillainy for its supreme production value, hard punches of lyricism, and lasting impact on Freddie Gibbs career. Compared to last years project, this new one has more of a nostalgic and optimistic tone to it. Nothing new was added to the overall soundscape but the overall feeling grows of yearning to travel back in time to a simpler but better time is what I get from a lot of the songs on this. Sometimes the distortions and heavy guitar can be a little overwhelming but gives a feeling of a foggy cloud being unveiled slowly. Definitely not the best project by them but still very strong one.
