These songs just do shit to my heart. "Normal Girl'' is undoubtedly my fav song, I just love the passion in the singing it literally speaks to me. You can be happy or sad when listening to this! (Sorry I forgot the other stuff I wanted to say, I accidentally stopped writing this review, but amazing and timeless project!)
Most songs are pretty chill or a straight-up bops. I be skipping some of the songs often tho tbh, mostly just love listening to "Clouded", "Been Away", "F The World..", and "Let Me Know". Those songs are soo good I just have to listen on repeat. The other songs I gotta be in the mood for and some of them just bore me.
Great cute soulful album! I love the Manhattans because of this album and it's great to just hear some old R&B. Some of the songs throughout the album are okay or just something you would have on in the background. But I'd literally have "I'm Not a Run Around" and "The Other Side of Me" played at my funeral.
The voice box just straight up gets obnoxious when listening. I only liked 4 of the songs, the rest can definitely be thrown away. "Computer Love" was chill, also loved the fact I recognized it from that Tupac sample. "I Only Have Eyes for You" sounds like a cute slow disco song. Despite me not caring all that much about the songs from this album, when I tell you, this album literally gave me one of my top songs I listen to like every day. "Make Me Feel Good" has a ... read more
I kinda feel like the album drags on for far too long. Despite that, Aceyalone is truly a lyricist, like his lines are crazy good, so it's cool that he was able to come up with so much for these songs. "The Guidelines" is how I found this album and that song's just so great in like every aspect and sounds magical, which really engaged me into what he had to say. Most of the other songs on this album actually contrasted with their sound. They had grim, dark, and overall mysterious ... read more
If there's ever a conversation on the best experimental hip hop albums, this should always be mentioned. My experience when first listening to this album, especially when "Ain't It Funny" came on, felt out of this world. I've never done drugs, but this album is the closest I got to doing them. And the lines are Danny's usual brilliant and funny lines, but with the crazy instrumentation, everything just goes from a 100 to 150. Even the cover is just perfect and literally tells you ... read more
This album is just straight up a classic. I can still remember some of the moments in the album that had me so amazed and excited on the first listen. Not a single bad song and not really any bad moments I can think of. The best thing about these types of albums is that after the first listen, you might not even know how you feel or know what you just experienced. It feels like a movie and it takes you through a sad, intense, and synth-heavy trip. The album also gave me 2 of my favorite ... read more
Generally speaking, I think this album deserves a 95 or even a 100, but for me, it has to be a 90. The album sounds exactly like what the cover is; a masterpiece. Everything sounds so artistic, every sound and note is intentional and provokes a feeling when you listen. I'm pretty much deeply in love with every song starting from "mary magdalene" and after. That's where my problem is, I want to love the album in its entirety, and tracks 1-4 are objectively good songs, but they always ... read more
I've never been into most pop music, only recently, which is why I feel like some of the songs just weren't doing it for me. I absolutely loved the tracks "Ordinary Superstar", "Take Me as I Am", and "Cyber Stockholm Syndrome". Those songs have a nice feel that just brings you into this moment. Also loved the interesting elements such as the intro to "Alterlife". The album is cool overall, but I just don't find myself visiting those other songs at all, ... read more
The first Freddie Gibbs LP I listened to. From everything to the samples, amazing transitions, and intriguing flows and lines, this album is undoubtedly a hip-hop classic. The only thing holding me back from making this a 100 is my personal disliking of "1985 " overall as a song, along with other minor parts of the album that felt off to me. One of those parts was Tyler's feature. I'm a really big fan of Tyler, but when his part comes on, I can't help but feel like it just sounds out ... read more
