Journey Through Music: The Birth of Rock 'n Roll - Episode 1
Here we are: at the birth of Rock ‘n Roll. Elvis Presley’s self-titled debut definitely was not the first record in the genre nor by any means the best - it, however, popularized Rock 'n Roll like no other album did. Setting aside its cultural impact, I was happy to find that this album was most of all a solid collection of songs.

Journey Through Music: The Birth of Rock 'n Roll - Episode 9
Go Bo Diddley definitely lives in the shadow of its predecessor as it is nowhere near as consistent or groundbreaking. It is not without its highlights, however. The songs I really enjoyed were the ones where Bo Diddley seemed to be stepping out of his comfort zone or trying something new. The sugary sweet Rock 'N' Roll of the opener "Crackin' Up", the layered balladry of "I'm So Sorry", and "Don't Let It Go ... read more
Journey Through Music: The Birth of Rock 'n Roll - Episode 8
I’ll be honest, the first couple of listens were rough. The self-titled debut by Bob Diddley is by far the least polished Rock ‘n’ Roll album I’ve listened to yet and that was undeniably jarring. However, once I got accustomed to the sound I fell in love with the project. The songwriting is as fun as anything that Little Richard was writing, the guitar-playing is more playful than Chuck Berry, and Bob ... read more

Artist Binge: Chuck Berry - Part 3

Chuck Berry Is on Top is easily the most popular and acclaimed of his studio albums, but not only am I lukewarm on another one of his projects, I actually like this record less than some of the ones that came before or after it.
My biggest issue with this project just like with all Chuck Berry projects happens to be its ... read more
Journey Through Music: The Birth of Rock 'n Roll - Episode 6
I was not actually planning on listening to this record, but at the very last minute I decided to give it a go and I am so happy that I did. I thought it would be more of the same, “Here’s Little Richard 2.0”, an album that was cobbled together by the studio after his denouncement of Rock ‘n’ Roll, however, I was very much relieved and happy to find it was anything but.
Yes, stylistically it's pretty ... read more

Artist Binge: Chuck Berry - Part 2
The debut studio album by Chuck Berry was disappointing, however, its follow-up is just sad. It's clear to see that not much effort or thought went into creating a solid album experience with either record, however, on One Dozen Berrys I can't be convinced that everything surrounding "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Rock and Roll Music" wasn't written on the spot.
The issues are ... read more
