Thrice - Major / Minor

A very fascinating album in the Thrice catalogue, Major / Minor sees them actually continue down the path laid by themselves on Beggars instead of doing something completely different yet again. Which is funny, because where Beggars was very stripped back and weirdly intimate with its sound, M/M goes for the in your face Alt Rock sound. Sometimes the guitars still sizzle with that Post-Hardcore fire, the drums rumble well, Eddies basslines are nice as always and Dustin still has that raw ... read more

Mitski - The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We

After listening in on repeat mode three times and intensely for 3 hours, I can finally conclude that Mitski is still on the right track. The pattern of the songs on this album is similar to "Be the Cowboy" and "Laurel Hell." Mitski does not adhere to the standard standards of pop music in the mass culture industry: Intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-interlude-coda. There is almost no chorus that is catchy and can be sung together at a concert in all the songs. Mitski writes ... read more

Thornhill - Heroine

Thornhill is a really loved band among the modern metal/metalcore scene, and for them to put out Heroine, a total departure from their previous sound, is a bold move that, in theory, shouldn't work, but spoiler alert: It does!

When they first released Casanova, I thought it was some random track that they put out just for fun. However, after their second single, Arkangel, it was clear that they were taking a new path, and honestly I prefer this change. I'm a sucker for anything that sounds ... read more

Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend

Wolf Alice release their third studio album, taking us on a tour of insecurities and reflections, along with introspective indie rock that is very well arranged and produced.

The album introduces us with the melancholy and touching "The Beach", an intro that very much conveys the melancholy feeling of the album, along with a light riff accompanied by a calm vocal that expands more and more in an exquisite way. "Delicious Things" and "Lipstick on the Grass" ... read more

刘柏辛 [Lexie Liu] - 幸福星 [The Happy Star]

This is another awesome project from her. She is great at doing a variety of styles while still having her own sound. I always love the background vocals in her music, it sounds very layered, dreamy and ethereal. She basically writes and produces all her songs, and has interesting lyrics. Also the way she switches between singing and rapping in Chinese, English and even Spanish is very smooth. There aren't any tracks on here I don't like. I think my favorites right now are FORTUNA, dance dance, ... read more
