A decent album with great production but hampered by song-writing that fluctuates track to track from brilliant to cringe.
it is always difficult when a band releases an album that you really connect with, love and over the course of years become very attached to, to then have proper expectations for their next release. On my first listen through this album I had a bit of a knee-jerk reaction as I was not quite prepared for the change in tone and songwriting from the youthful fiery angst on More Scared of You. Now, 2 years later, I can confirm that this is truly an album that ripens and enriches over time. It grows with you and peaks back into your life at certain points to comfort you and ask to once more be given a listen. Originally a 6, it has grown better with every listen since.
Everything Everything gets dark for Fever Dream. They swap most of the kinetic explosive sound of Get Me To Heaven for dark synth and bass centric tunes...even dipping into a muted piano ballad. despite the new angle they have retained their unique and addictive musical personality. Jonathan Higgs' vocals are as theatrical and passionate as ever, and Michael Spearman presents the most colorful and interesting drum-work in the bands discography.
