While there are some great songs, unfortunately this album has some straight filler.
All Hope Is Gone is the final Slipknot album with the original 9 members, and while I like this record for the most part I really wish this album was more focused. Selling out never sounded so good.
This album is great. Vol. 3 is the most experimental record up to this point, and while it may not be as heavy, it is still very much the quality you'd expect of Slipknot.
Iowa is visceral, evil, and absolutely fantastic.
Slipknot coming out the cut with 2 of the greatest metal albums of all time is something I did not expect but that I am pleasantly surprised with. Iowa is heavier, and somehow even MORE pissed off than the self-titled. The great pacing, the heavy riffs, Joey Jordison's (RIP) incredible drumming, and Corey Taylor being a mad man make this album such a compelling listen. Iowa is about as great as a follow up album can be. Another classic.
Greatest debut of all time.
I've always liked Slipknot, but at a very surface level. So when I finally decided to do a deep dive into their discography I was enlightened. This isn't just an incredible nu-metal album, this is an incredible piece of art. The drumming is so fucking angry I get whiplash just listening. Whilst lacking their typically great production, this album is completely full of their usual charm.
This album sounds extremely rough, very short, and quite rudimentary. Yet the band had a vision to showcase their skill, and they definitely did.
