the highs on this are amazing but i cant rate it higher than this due to songs like americas most blunted, shadows of tomorrow and a few instrumentals that sound like they serve no purpose
Solid debut album from system, my only issue would be that the quality somewhat tapers off near the end but this album has quality nonetheless. This albums sound would later be perfected in Toxicity which drives down the consistent political messaging of system even further with an even more consistent tracklist.
The place where he inserted the blade has cemented itself into my life, the memories this song brings are enough to make me cry.
This new sound is truly amazing, so many different styles cohesively meshing together to create something new and beautiful.
Whilst it is a little long winded with its 1 hour length, this album is always a treat to relisten to and it has provided me Holy, Holy which I believe is one of the best songs ever.
We are really grasping at straws here.
We all know Ye has been going down a slippery slope the past couple years, and it's clearly affected his music negatively with albums like Vultures, Vultures 2 and songs like WW3, Cousins and HH. Leading up to this latest release, Ye has apologised and seemingly "changed his ways". Whether he truly means it is yet to be seen, what I do know however, is that BULLY shows just how little Ye cares about his art nowadays, seen by his heavy usage ... read more
its hard not to love this
A thrash metal staple, reign in blood is an album filled with constant high energy and iconic riffs. Raining blood has one of the most recognisable riffs in not only thrash but metal as a whole, cementing itself in history. Angel of death is a genre defining song and perfects everything this album is trying to do.
The rest of the songs are also pretty good although i felt like none of them were doing anything on par to the 2 tracks i mentioned it more so felt like they were throwing out a ... read more
Cheesecake+ is an album that has a charm to it, just not a charm that appeals to me very much. It's a sample heavy project that features a lot of chopped up synths making up the melody to most of its tracks. I find its use of chopped samples and melodies boring and even obnoxious at times, for example, keep on baby has this "im so fancy" sample that really throws me off and sounds out of place. Adding onto that the moments where the melody stops getting chopped up on this track ... read more
Most of the time the length of the tracks in This Is Happening are to its benefit. Super feel good catchy repetitive tunes (buzzwords) that make you wanna break out into a dance. At the same time when the song doesnt grab you and is 7-8 minutes it can feel like a real slog, this is my main issue with the album, you get 2 songs in a row that are not good or catchy enough to be 8 minutes and 7 minutes respectively (pow pow and somebody's calling me) it ends up muddying the tracklist and ... read more
After listening to this 2 weeks early at a listening event, getting the record with a signed insert and hearing zel perform the singles live on 2 separate occasions, you could say i was already invested in this mixtape being good, so yes, from a very biased fan stand point, this tape fucks.
The production is the biggest standout for me, every beat is fire and has a unique sound for the genre which makes sense considering this was originally meant to be a beat tape. The beats have this flair to ... read more
After 375 plays and 22 hours of listening to this album I'm finally allowed and able to give my initial rating.
Robin Callaway is an artist that wears their inspirations on their sleeve. This album as a whole feels like if you combined Boris' killer noise rock style with MBV's dreamy shoegaze sound, the end result is something that manages to be supremely noisy yet beautiful.
The mixing of this album is just how it needs to be imo, everything meshes well nicely, and despite how noisy this album gets, you can still pick out small details in the music.
seraphim i sounds like it could be ... read more
This album is a great representation of depression; it sounds like someone who is tired of everything yet still tries to put on a smile despite their hopelessness. This is done musically through the use of the xylophone, an instrument that embodies childlike innocence and playfulness, yet it manages to sound so painful behind the sombre and laid-back production of this album.
Rest in Peace.
