"For the first time ever, I was actually physically repulsed by the music...It didn’t feel right to me. No one was listening to me. People were going behind my back to producers, telling them, 'When she comes there, make this type of beat, get her to talk about this and this and this.' "

I want to give Solange a hug. This song is so healing. It's been said so many times, but it's just so true. You can listen to it when you're feeling down, or when you feel like you are on top of the world; it doesn't matter, because this song hits, every time, any time. Just remember to listen to it when you're going through a process - nobody got to the sky without climbing first.
I went to see a live concert of hers, and honestly I'll keep this short.
Things I like:
She breathes life into the music. It's all executed flawlessly and playfully, with her own spin on things and her own personal style, adapting to a myriad of tones and character, ranging from quirky to more serious music.
You can hear the cohesive aspect of this album; every song picked makes sense, every bit of this album has a subtle theme of interconnectedness.
There is an atmosphere of ... read more
There is something about this record that you either find out straight away or it takes a longer time to be revealed. I've always found Björk's music infinitely unique. But one thing about this album is that it amplifies an aspect of her music: the ability to communicate everything emotionally and musically. It's a feeling that is so universally human. You absolutely do not need any context whatsoever about Björk's life or intentions or state of mind to understand ... read more
To be fair, I hadn't reviewed until now because I wanted to wait to see what would happen with the review bombing. I was happy to see that the bots fawning over this song had been removed, but many people rated this song 0 to go against them when they were still there, and, up to this point, still have. Honestly, I believe that review bombing of any kind, whether 100 or 0, is pointless. I'm sure many people have read reviews like this before especially under this single but I want to ... read more
I just finished the series and my mind is blown. It seemed like all my questions have been answered, yet I still have so many. This soundtrack digs deep and accompanies everything perfectly, some songs on here are definitely going to be in my head on repeat, and they really sum up the overall mysterious mood, brimming with malice and suspense.
We get hauntingly beautiful sung parts from almost all of the vocalists. This is intricately underlined by a fantastic layer of sharp songwriting and ... read more
Consider it a guilty pleasure?
Love the glitchy artpop production, text to speech voice is a nice touch, both of these things create an interesting and unique sound. I loved the singing until 'watch the numbers scroll up, then it gets progressively worse as I feel like it's building up to something, like I feel that she's just about to start hardcore rapping or something, but instead it progresses to the 'in my favourite blouse' part. I love unconventional genres and ... read more
I don't really expect anyone to read this. However, this is not a review. It's intertwined with the album at the time I was listening to it, thoughts and feeling I want to put on text.
A hollow feeling, which comes and goes. That's the simplest way to describe it. It's not depression, it's not derealisation, at least, I don't think it is, but i don't feel like i am who i am. It's stuck with me for some time, but I recently asked myself a question: ... read more
Absolutely brain-defying. I love the switch up in the middle of the track, it really makes me wonder about what she's going to do next..
Thank you so much for 200 followers! This website has introduced me to a lot of wonderful people, music, and artists, and it holds a special place in my heart.
Martha argerich is one of my favourite pianists. You can hear how relaxing her playing is; it resounds with a balanced quality, one that is delicate and powerful at the same time. This is a profoundly beautiful experience and testament to Schumann, someone who is sometimes undervalued and known for his "crazy" mental state, ... read more
Thank you for reading and have a fabulous day!
You can't really find anyone else like yeule.
I have only had brief glimpses of yeule here and there in the past year, the only song I really knew of theirs was Your Shadow, the first song of Serotonin II. Their unique blend of ambient tracks and dream/ synth pop has always captivated me, but since the day eko rolled out I've increasingly been listening to them. I don't know why but there's something inherently ... read more
Imagine you're standing on the wooden Nihonbashi Bridge in the ancient city of Edo, Japan. It's the dawn of the early morning, a time separate from the lively crowds of people usually rushing across to the sea market. The first thing you notice is the pristine and respectful air of everything; the streets, the houses, the nature. But above all, your gaze wanders onto the lush and tranquil stream that is the Nihonbashi River, an iridescent sheen of moonlight made liquid. The ripples ... read more
One of the most serene but ambitious songs I have heard in a long looong time.
Right how they sit at the undisrupted indie level where some attention has been turned but people generally haven't noticed them. I definitely feel that one day they'll release something that will shock everyone by just how great it will be.
One of the things that I love about little Simz is her ability to be lyrically poetic, matching meaning with freedom to create fabulously conscious music, include a rich and inspiring story and being loving whilst admitting her own flaws, leading us through the beauty of imperfection.
Every single line she says is cleverly executed but is also just so relatable, some lyrics in some songs are beautifully metaphorical, but when you ask yourself what they actually mean to you, you might find that ... read more
What made Lady Gaga's music great was the fact that it was accessible but inventive and catchy. She had a ridiculously good debut with songs like Poker Face and Just Dance (to name a few), and while you honestly can't expect that level of songwriting from an artist all the time they will probably be able to capitalise on that thing that made them so good in the first place.
Lady Gaga is an artist who I do have sympathy towards, and she is back with her most consistent effort, ... read more
Ever since Isaac's departure Black Country, New Road have been the central focus of attention in what they're going to do next. Being revered artists in their respective sphere of music, the band have generally taken on a more melodious and baroque style, leaning on a more pop-oriented sound compared to their experimental rock tendency. I have to say though, their sound is so refined and performed with flair, with Georgia's voice so smooth and blending beautifully with the track ... read more
Death grips are the kind of guys to listen to after you've had enough of everything, music to match blinding anger or the kick-down-doors type of rage. It's no wonder they achieve this sort of feeling with Zach Hill being a musician that aims to achieve purity in his instinctive-driven way of drumming, while mc Ride absolutely delivers in the lyrical aspect over andy Morrin's distorted and synthesised keyboard progressions. Everything plays a part in creating organised chaos, ... read more
"When I first released music and no one new what I looked like, I would read comments like:
'I've never heard anything like this, it's not in a genre'
And then my picture came out six months later, now she's an R&B singer"
Music by definition does not belong in a genre; the absolute vastness of different sounds and ideas means that genre labels are more like loose guidelines. We use them because it’s the easiest way we have of speaking about ... read more
Picture a world where everything is futile. The streets, the mountains, the forests, are all empty. All devoid of life or sounds like a still image. A mere imitation of what once was, a mimicry of the vivid show that once upheld this land.
As you stroll alongside a half-dilapidated path the ground feels synthetic below your feet. You have been walking for - who knows how long? Was it five minutes or five days?
There is a constant feeling of deja vu, but you tend not to dwell on it. You can ... read more
