Sorry - 925

A nice and solid Indie Rock/ Post punk release from sorry, could use some more diversity in mood and tone but overall not bad.

Recs:
- In Unison

Xxtarlit⚸ - 8 tracks for hormones

An enjoyable Atmospheric DnB release.

Recs:

- Girl's Love (Clean Mix)
- Untitled1

C418 - 72 Minutes of Fame
75

C418 continues to be genius and legendary beyond the soundtrack that made his name world renowned. People should definitely give his discography more love cause the experience is just as enriched as Minecraft's Amazing OST.

Recs:
- Timelapse Kingdom
- Alive
- I Like My Job
- Marketing Squander Verses the Little Man
- Along the Busiest Roads
- Stilbruch

5 Seconds of Summer - 5SOS5
45

I remember thinking 5sos were going to be the next One Direction back when I was a teenager.

I mean it's inoffensive the boys do well. But I have little reason to return to anything provided here. It does get pretty exhausting to listen to the longer it goes along. Desperately needs some spice and diversity. Reeks of radio slop.

Foreigner - 4
55

Some cheesy early 80s rock. Other than Juke Box Hero which I have always liked when it played out in the wild, I found little worthwhile in this one.

Big Data - 3.0
65

It's really interesting to revisit the kind of music that I listened to before this site expanded my horizons on a vast scale. Lik I know that a few years ago I would call a release like this a banger, but these days I just see it as a fine Electropop release that does it's job well.

Recs:
- Evolution Once Again
- Put Me to Work
- Live Forever (feat. MNDR)

ESPRIT 空想 [Esprit Fantasy] - 200% Electronica
95

In my exploration of vaporwave thus far, I have familiarized myself of many artists and one of the few that I couldn't connect with was one of the biggest in George Clanton. Now I have yet to really dig into his discography to really get a feel of his style beyond tracks here and there that mostly weren't for me. The exception is ones that I stumbled upon here on 200% Electronica. Maybe this is the key to me finding enjoyment out of George's inputs to one of my favorite genres. ... read more

Regina Spektor - 11:11

Regina Spektor offers an enjoyable Singer songwriter with influences of jazz and blues in this early release of hers.

Recs:

- Pavlov's Daughter
- 2.99 cent Blues
- I Want to Sing

Seb Wildblood - :~^ [The One With the Emoticon]

Oh hell yeah. Now this is the vibe. That cover is not false advertising folks. And if ya were curio of my taste for a period before I discovered this site than look no further than this chill ass release.

Recs:

- Plants
- Deptford Synths
- Interlude

ねごと [NEGOTO] - "Z"OOM
70

Some groovy ass J-rock. Enjoyable little gem I found scrolling through my endless library on YouTube music. ( Haven't done this in awhile so expect me to be listening to some obscure/ random releases for a while.)

Recs:
- Dreamin'
- M. Y. D.
- Kunsho

Jetty Bones - -

This is like the softest sweetest emo I've ever heard. It seems folky and even twee pop at times.

Recs:
- Bringing it Up
- To Know You...
- The Rest of Them.

Holly Humberstone - work in progress
60

A sweet lil alt pop EP from Holly Humberstone. I enjoyed the title track but found the rest to be rather forgettable.

Salst Kyann - Vértebra Por Vértebra
70

Thanks @krrllnnss for recommending me your Ambient release!

I really appreciated the somber yet nostalgic tone. Reminds of Minecraft at points. A solid overall experience.

Recs:
- Big Bygona
- Exército de Maquinas de Lavar
- AI, Vai Explodir
- Parem O Puturo Lesidiàrio
- Frango Queimado

Dmytro Demura - Dima

Thanks @dmytrodemura for recommending me your album!

Enjoyed how raw and somber this is.

Recs:
- Home
- The Invader

Snowfilter Cult - Lullaby For Dead Rooms
60

Thanks @thegreatbigben for recommending me this album of yours!

This is some nice and moody dark ambience, though there was little here that I personally found worthwhile beyond this one listen.

Recs:
- Not Yet Corpses
- The Sky Will Eat Me Whole

ReMark - HyperMark 3
65

In less than half a year the third installation of HyperMark series from the infamous yet beloved AOTY user @RemisReviews!

Looks to be more Trap/ Rage and in the time since I have left my thoughts of your previous release, I still have yet to really familiarize myself with those genres unfortunately. So don't be offended if I don't enjoy this as much as others.

Took a second to adjust to the tone and whine of your voice but it fits the aesthetic and energy provided here so I warmed ... read more

kaya! - internal dialogue

Thanks @kayadagoatnocap for recommending me your debut album!

Interesting stuff. I enjoyed the overall sonic aesthetic but I particularly enjoyed the longer sludgier/ambient tracks in particular. One critique I have of these could be a bit more diversity to keep things engaging and avoid a stale sound. See what fits with what you got and work it into the mix to give a break from the action or point the audience in another direction that isn't too jarring. Otherwise, this is really really ... read more

Mayhem - De mysteriis dom Sathanas
50

Thanks @MyDixieReckt for recommending this Album to me.

Looks to be some mid nineties black metal in a similar vein to Dark Throne which takes thrash metal and doubles the intensity and darkens the tone. If you are familiar with my tastes I mostly don't care much for thrash and this style of death metal. Like I appreciate the skilled instrumentation and overall aesthetic, but beyond that I am mostly indifferent to it's offerings. This remains the case here for me in Mayhems debut.

H O L E - Purple
65

Thanks @Sammyhamnmy1093 for recommending me this release.

I always appreciate myself some Dark Ambience. Does the mind good by numbing it from the madness of the world outside. I liked this for what it was, but it could be even moodier and atmospheric.

Recs:
- Purple
- Night Shift
- There's a Body in the Alley
- Did You Hear That?
- The Final Hour

Jbjohnston2011 - Luminescence
70

Thanks @Jbjonston2011 for recommending me your debut album!

I think this goes to show that age doesn't matter when it comes to art. Little kids can replicate complex and difficult compositions on a piano. An elder near the end of their life can make a long withheld dream come true by having their life's work finally be appraised and celebrated by the masses. It's all human expression no matter the age and condition you are in. And in a world that seems to be more and more ... read more

"@frogofprog of course, all the songs listed in the review are great including the all time classic in War Pigs. I just think as an album experience as a whole it could be a bit better."

"@ScottShelby As for what's next for Zappa since I have listened to most of his Acclaimed stuff besides a couple of TMOI releases In likely to finish off that bands offerings before down the road see what Zappa has to offer in his more contentious releases."

"@musicfanboy You looked into that more than I ever cared to so I guess? I don't know. I do generally find slowcore rather boring to slog through, so your probably right."
On Terry Reid - Terry Reid
"@AidenBowe45 He reminds of Paul McCartney at points with how passionately he sings and the instrumental goes crazy. It's a fun album for sure!"
On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."
On Herbie Hancock - Fat Albert Rotunda
"@AidenBowe45 Groovy, funky and takes you on a ride. I don't remember if it goes wildly off the track but I wouldn't be surprised if it did with an artist like Hancock at the wheel."

On Amon Düül II - Phallus Dei
"@AidenBowe45 I'm excited for whenever you do decide to listen to it, they put you on a wild ride that's the best of both worlds and reminds me why I regard Krautrock as one of my all time favorite genres to lose my mind to!"
On Eyeliner - Buy Now
"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."
On Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel
"@RSmithFan What I meant was that this was the first album that felt like it was made in the eighties. Don't know why I phrased it that way either."
On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE
"@engar where? what? I don't see anything eyebrow raising."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
