Reviewing a bunch of singles cause why not? (14/20)
You know just taking this song on its own, the momentum that it builds throughout up to the climatic unfiltered fuck you to the authorities kinda falls flat though it could be Spotify not giving the punch that I know this song has. I'm going to listen on YouTube music and see if it hits harder over there...
I just clicked play and oh yeah it hits a million times harder. I don't know why Spotify nerfs music so much sometimes. ... read more

I have always meant to review the whole album at some point since giving it one of my very earliest ratings on this site, but I guess a single review will do for now.
This song for me has always worked better within the context of the album as a whole, cause individually it just seems like another standard Kesha track with a but if dramatic flair. I'll be honest and say that it's amongst the weakest offerings of the album for me. ... read more

Some cool trippy space rock from early Pink Floyd. It's cool to see that even at this point in their career, they have that special sauce that just locks you attention to whatever journey they are taking you this time. Sure it isn't at the level of their legendary works down the line, but you can already see the pieces and potential even here. Good stuff overall and shout out to Lucy in the sky.

As a guy that has never seen this show and is pretty certain that the reason for the high score is dependent on the context provided by said show, I think this is a swell Jazz tune. The instrumentation is tasteful and the voice clear and prominent with a melancholic yet hopeful message to share. It's well done for what it is, I just personally don't think it's all that like the rest of y'all. Could be my ignorance though.
Update with me listening to the Nimrod album. This is a decent to solid listen that does the job well enough, but as an individual track doesn't offer much for me to enjoy.

Last one for today, I'll finish this tomorrow. Here we got some Green Day. Not the biggest fan of theirs. But I keep an open mind. I hope they can surprise me.
Oh, it's this track. Yeah like usual it's mostly alt rock background noise ... read more

I was noticing the lack of modern singles so let's fix that with a big one around these parts last year at least in the metal sphere. Again this is my first impression of this artist, so keep that in mind in case I don't like it.
Heavy as fuck riffs and incessant screaming of the lyrics with like two seconds of soft vocals slapped on and call it a day. I don't know why everyone is eating this up personally. Sure it's ... read more

A fucking iconic start to the biggest album in music. A worldwide sensation unseen since Beatlemania is born. Though it isn't as undeniable as the three tracks that need no introduction, this is still an unmissable start to a timeless album that deserves all of its success and acclaim

Awe...the one big song of this album that I don't care much for. It's fine I guess, a nice jaunt that is easy on the ears like this band usually is. But compared to the iconic firecrackers throughout this album this falls a bit flat for me personally.

Oh man why did the random number generator guide me to Eminem of all people? And this obnoxious track of all of them. Yeah I am not listening to this I have heard PLENTY of this nonsense over the years I'm good. Thanks, but no thanks.

This time we got the recently retired supposedly Weeknd with a single off of their Kissland release. When I went through the discog I didn't care much for the album in general, so let's see if that changes with this little listen.
Mom! Abel is copying Michael Jackson again!
I like that backing vocal. The choice to go muffled and distorted for the pre chorus is a bold one and it works for being distinct. Again the ... read more

To emphasize that this is complete random pickings here's a short single from a more modern artist that has been making a splash. I'll admit that this is my first impression of Mr.Sweatshirt, so keep the tomatoes to yourself if I don't like it.
Sonically, this ain't doing much for me. Lyrically, it's a whole ass mood which I can appreciate but it doesn't rouse me much either. Yeah I'll be that one guy. ... read more

Next up we got another iconic modern classic band with a big single of their own. Though unlike the previous single I went over I don't know how this goes just by looking at the title. I do have it check marked on Spotify, so I have listened to and enjoyed it at some point. Let's have a reminder of why hundreds of millions have heard this around the world...
It was a stormy bluesy night, the song basically. The instrumental is the ... read more

We start off this spontaneous little series on an iconic note. The big single from the final released album of the biggest band to ever do it. It starts off as a nice piano ballad with the usual quality vocals from Paul. A brief supporting harmony comes in during the first rendition of the iconic chorus and que Ringo with the tasteful drumming for the second verse.
The bass come in soon after, but I thought it was Paul playing the piano...NO ... read more
A damn solid Synthpop release what has the best vibes and the right vocals you need to finish your weekend on a strong note.
Recs:
- Celebrate (feat. Agge)
- High
- Butterflies
- Strobe Light
- Gravity
If this had released a decade and a half earlier, it would be a lot more appreciated. Though the sound is very outdated by the mid nineties, I still enjoyed this late seventies to early eighties pop release regardless. Good stuff Karen!
Recs:
- All Because of You
- If I Had You
- If We Try
- Remember When Lovin' Took All Night
- Guess I Just Lost My Head
- Last One Singin' the Blues
An interesting Black Metal release that doesn't want to sound the same throughout the experience which I can appreciate. The problem is that it feels a bit disjointed with how they utilize the tolls at their disposal. It works at times and others I am just left confused. Its not bad, and I applaud their efforts, but it could have been executed better. It probably does need more than an initial listen to truly grasp what they are going for as well, but who has time for that? I'll just ... read more
Man these small snippets of super charming weirdcore genius are something else. If only it was expanded upon into a more fleshed out sonic experience. Not to say it doesn't do a lot with its six minutes. It just would have been nice to even have this be an EP length experience. I wonder what Jack could do with that much room to explore if we could do this with only six minutes of room to work with.
A bit too reliant on loops for an effective trippy experience I did enjoy "Fata Morgana" so I encourage you to check that track out.
