The Turtles - The Turtles Present the Battle of the Bands
75

When you are bursting with so much creative energy you just make a multi genre album parodying a different band/idea each track whilst keeping things fun and light-hearted throughout. It's got the variety of an unorganized compilation album while avoiding a complete sonic disconnect that would be jarring for even veterans to adjust to. This may not be the greatest thing in the world but I love the joyful creative spirit that's all over this release. Good stuff lads, even though you ... read more

Accept - Balls to the Wall

This ol' heavy Metal record may be doing the things it needs to do right, but to me it's adversity to being distinct makes me label it as generic 80's heavy metal that reminds of more iconic bands. Literally German AC/DC with a man thigh for a cover art.

Nicole Dollanganger - Married in Mount Airy

Ridiculously good. Haven't connected with an album this strongly in a bit! ( It's only been a week since I last hearted an album so the previous statement may be slightly dramatic.) Irregardless this album is simply fantastic and hit all the right chords. If you are interested in a slow dark folk gothic aesthetic with an awfully sweet voice to top it all then this shit is for you and me! I highly recommend you check it out!

Sometimes clicking shuffle on my endless Library to listen to offers an .. interesting release. I don't quite know what to make of this unique release, but it's certainly something.

Matt Champion - Mika's Laundry

Matt certainly isn't my champion since I personally didn't care much about this debut solo offering of his.

VAPERROR - Mana Pool

Gotta love some Vaportrap. Especially when it goes this hard.

Macano offers a decent effort with some great tunes amongst the ineffective rest.

Flying Lotus - Flamagra

In their latest release to date Flying Lotus offers a mixed bag of generally well produced ideas that often misses the mark due in part to not being expanded enough or wasn't that interesting in the first place. I will say 27 tracks is a lot for any album and I think if the bloat was cut off and some of the more fascinating ideas were expanded I think this would be looked upon in a better light. There is enough good stuff here to make a good album overall though.

@Kickdave ... This recommendation you gave me is simply wild not to mention some these lyrics. I do appreciate the bluesy instrumentation though that stuff is always good no matter how wack the lyrics are. Other genres are here as well and they are executed well. I did enjoy this for what it is but probably won't be returning to it. My musical journey is just a bit more interesting with this included, so I appreciate that at least.

Thanks @Kickdave for recommending me this! (1/2)

This looks to be an indie rock/ folk release that manages to not be as generic as the genre is generally viewed by me. The opener has a slot of quirks happening that gives a fresh splash to the familiar sound. The backing vocals featured throughout this project is well appreciated as is the general instrumental and production. The main vocalist has an approachable easy to follow voice. The variety featured here is also very much appreciated. All ... read more

Retrofuturism in sonic form. The moogiest of Moog. Very pleasant and easy to listen. If you like the Gameboy pokemon soundtrack vibe then you are going to like this!

If you are into death metal this is a fun time, as someone who doesn't have a preference towards the genre I found this to be a solid example of the genre with its intensity and nasty vocals. It may not be my particular spice, but that's not to say I can't appreciate the things it offers.

Deee-Lite - World Clique

For their debut Deee-Lite offers a fun dance pop release that's very old school, but even so there's a number of gems that stand the test if time pretty well at least for me.

Spotify gave me this album as a sponsored recommendation flashcard that is usually quickly swiped away. But today I decided, why not? Let's see what this has to offer.

Apparently Spotify wanted me to go to a club. Cause this chill dance release is a good time to be had with some good listens within the mix. I had a good time with it, good recommendation spotty.

80's Dark wave and Gothic Rock in it's finest form. Can't believe that I skipped over this in my long term project though it could be that this wasn't even on the chart back then since it's been almost a year now since I went through 1985. Anyways, yeah this is just quality stuff and is super underated. Production and vibes are immaculate, the vocals how I like them, just all around good shit that heals the cold dark heart.

I really like this bashing of a main focus on metal core, some nu metal and DnB, with a hint of edm here and there. This is a really cool concept that is done very well giving plenty of space to breathe and thrive. Could use a bit more refinement and flow but for their what second full release, this is not bad at all. I really fuck with what they are going for here. Vocals are fire, the guitars are chugging, drums hitting, the Dnb elements well utilized. It's just well executed for the ... read more

Well this small single of yours is a lot different than that EP. The mix is a lot more moody and dirty, the lyrics a lot more straight, a lot more personal. I got to say this style fits you well, and I would love to hear more like it. Though in saying that, since you are still very early in your artistic expression do not hesitate to experiment and explore. Refine the tools you have, and boldly try out new things you are curious of. You have potential in this style and people are being ... read more

Thus is a decent psychedelic release with a couple standout tracks. It's a shame that it didn't turn out as coolof a experience as the cover art and it being a self titled release would suggest.

On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
