This is how I see pop music would sound if it wasn't written by board room members.
It honestly is extremely refreshing.
If this came out 10 years ago, I might have given it a higher score, but due to how refined and polished metal has become in the past decade, this honestly just doesn't push hard enough to intrigue me anymore.
I've said this before on older Evanesence, I think Amy Lee will shine better in more contemporary environments, because the slower songs in this album really do shine because her vocal performance is perfect in those scenarios.

"@JohnCena1337 this isn't very "abstract" in comparison to billy woods, death grips, Danny Brown, Bruiser Wolf, Messiah Musk, ect... just to name a few. Where a lot of the lyrics have overlapping meanings that can be interpreted in multiple ways. Which is fine, it doesn't need to be in that level.
My problem is more of the "nerd rap" lines that are super cringe that refer back to anime/geek culture. This shit has been done countless of times throughout the late 2010s especially with Logic popularizing it, and I have heard some horrific lines from albums like: HentaiGod that still give me PTSD at night π. This isn't the worst of it, thank god, but I just don't think there is much creativity left in such an oversaturated medium."

But intention is irrelevant when talking about how this album became the gold standard in how the music industry packages, markets, platforms, and distributes music.
From the very beginning, MJ was crafted and molded to be the person he became. "Agency" is put into question, especially from the influence of his father from a young age, and later Epic Records when he became an adult. And regardless of how much money he received in compensation, it pales in comparison to how much Epic has made in profits. So it also puts into question: "ownership"."

Also, as for the rating, I do always try to be impartial and objective with my critique in music, but I also don't believe you can fully separate the artist with the art. Or more specifically, remove the context of how art is produced and who it is produced for.
In the case of Thriller, I wanted to give it a 0 to not only raise eyebrows but also to express that I don't agree with this notion that "commercial success" = "good art". This album is the personification of the commodification of music, the concept of turning art into a product and the artists are just workers in the assembly line, with no agency nor true ownership of their work."

You can't after all enjoy something you have never listened to, and people only have so much time in the day to listen to music. So it isn't a surprise that only 3 companies monopolize over 80% of the total profit revenue (which also overlap into movies and television).

But isn't "art" supposed to be a relationship between the artist and audience? Conveying some kind of message to make your audience feel something impactful?
