Death is real. Someone's there and then they're not. And it's not for singing about. It's not for making into art.
I have yet to speak about the works of Phil Elverum on here, largely because it’s hard to really condense how much he is able to do, into a quick review, and while I will get to more of his stuff, I still don’t know how I’m going to do this, because this is not a quick review, however it felt somewhat appropriate for my 250th on this site. ... read more
I consider myself to be quite a big fan of the current pop landscape, and the delightful women that largely make it up. I think that, for the most part, it is a genre in very safe hands with a very wide set of talented, brilliant and very stylistically different artists that make the 2020s a great decade for pop music when you can dig past the boring and drab sludge that is produced by the Alex Warrens or Meghan Trainors of the industry. Generally speaking, there is a lot of very good music out ... read more
I don't know what Taylor Swift was on in 2020 but could she please get back on it
I have something of a complicated relationship with Taylor Swift, for all intents an purposes I am a big fan of her work, Red is one of my favourite pop albums, and I find the narrative she conveys throughout all her albums to be engaging, interesting, compelling, and (sometimes!) well-written. The fact her work forms something of a tapestry made up of stories about her life, career, and relationships is ... read more
Olivia Rodrigo you will always be famous
I really cannot stress enough how excited I am for the new O-Rod. Perhaps the most excited I have been for a mainstream pop release, perhaps ever. SOUR was a solid project, though clearly hastily assembled to capitalise on the sudden monumental success of Drivers License, but then GUTS was juts a fantastic listen all around to me, with nothing on it that I didn't love *something* about. As a songwriter I find Olivia to be sharp, witty, thoughtful ... read more
North West is only 12 and still put out a better project than her dad, you truly hate to see it.
This thing is barely over 11 minutes with 6 tracks, all of which hover around the 2 minute mark, and generally speaking it is far more solid than one would expect of someone of North's age, and there really is loads of fun to be had on this very brief EP. In a world where the children of many a celebrity are dabbling in music, such as Jaden Smith, but I feel like North is refusing to simply ... read more
I'm gonna have a full-strength beer, you girl.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I will say it again. King Gizzard. And the Lizard. Wizard. This is one of my favourite bands, they are one of the first artists where I truly felt like albums were something worth being invested in and genuinely seeking out, and things that can be greater statements than simply random assortments of various songs. I have talked about and reviewed them here before, but right when I was ready to commit to a ... read more
