To be honest, I turned this on with that preconceived mindset of “Oh man, I’ve heard so much about how ass this band is.” But man, this really wasn’t that awful. While Seventeen Seconds is certainly a very menacing, dark and gothic listen, Faith is an album that really does fill me with a sense of dread and just a general numbness. While Robert Smith's songwriting is usually pretty dreary and melancholic, almost every track here makes me just feel so dead inside. The record prior feels like almost pushing back against the darkness a little bit, but Faith feels like almost an acceptance of those dark feelings. Saw this on Instagram a while ago and presaved, did not disappoint! It's not just straight bossa nova, but has really wonderful touches of indie folk and pop that really round out every song here. Reminds me of Haley Heynderickx but not as theatrical, but still the same amount of content and comfiness.
