it's nice, it could be better with a more coherent tracklist. I think that Past Life should be the closer (one of my favourite songs on the album). It ends abruptly with a phone call, It would work much better than a fade out which is the thing I hate in closers.
great production, dazzling song-writing but gets somewhat repetitive.
MEH. literally great album for people who hadn't listened to a lot of jazz before. Kenny G level.
What a great record! Definitely needs to be listen from the beginning to end - I hope more people will hear about this warm, a bit psychedelic and incredibly catchy album with an amazing instrumentation.
Woah, didn't expect to enjoy this SO MUCH. The lo-fi production is what I really enjoyed, the beats changing between neo-soul and noise were amazing. The least favourite song for me were The Brown Stains Of Darkeese Latifah. The people seem to rate albums looking on the previous works, comparing the evolution etc. but it really shows the Okonma's talent to create entertaining tracks, which are easily enjoyed (by me at least). Intensive changes of influences, beats and guests make it an album ... read more
Really liked the first NGHFB record, even though repetitive there was a skillful songwriting and interesting instrumentation. I dunno. There, the songwriting is still pretty good, but the... I don't know... compression? lazy production? made it like a stale bread. You know, you can put it in the oven, and it'll make it crispy and fresh again, but this time Noel forgot to turn on the oven. Really disappointed with this, though I love Oasis and the previous HFB album.
Great first 4 tracks were a prediction of a solid lo-fi psych rock album, with more focused sound and direction. But then the feel of the previous album was back and everything started to be... generic and not worth following. The last track is the only reason to go through this whole record, but overall it seems UMO still has to polish their songwriting.
Nice old-school flow, but I felt that it was half-baked and didn't have a proper, focused direction to follow, with lots of undeveloped ideas.
After hearing the not-so-positive reactions to this album I was expecting something generic, bland and just 'okay'. But listening to this album made me smile. It's the perfect record for this summer for me and it's really enjoyable. The instrumentation feels so crisp and the production reminds me of Pink Floyd albums like Meddle or MGMT's Congratulations. It's not ground-breaking as these two aforementioned titles, but it's quite fresh and warm and laid-back. There may be like 1 or 2 fillers ... read more
I don't know if I'm the only person to say it, but I have a feeling this is a really important album and we're just not feeling it yet. It's expansive, combining chillwave with this arena ambient pop, emotional, and (I'll use this awkward word)- epic. It's like a painting, like a totally abstract and surreal movie! With powerful songwriting, lush instrumentation, nostalgic retro production and unbelievable this feels like a masterpiece. It's intense and joyful or intimate and heart-breaking ... read more
While some songs like Blue caught my attention, the rest felt like a result of a lazy month of typical raw indie rock songwriting. Katie's voice is really cool and it was the reason to go through the whole album. Yeah, it's alright. But besides La Loose, Blue and Half Moon there was nothing really entertaining to listen to.
~'It's lazy indie rock again!" by Raw Samey Chords and Pretty Vocals
There is nothing to sink in. There is just nothing exciting nor original here. Just a bland, OK ambient/post-rock album.
Memories... It's my first indie band I got into
Really controversial, but I don't get how people like Anthony Fantano can say that this album is... hell? noise? Come on, there are maybe 2 or 3 tracks that are pretty noisy and messy but it has a lot of hidden gems, it's like searching for juicy candies in an old, dusty house. And it's exciting!
First two and last two songs are pretty good. The rest is samey and a bit boring.
at first I was let down by the production. The songwriting is excellent. The psychedelic soul / lo-fi hip hop feel that's constantly changing is utterly awesome. The thing that still makes me rate it not as a perfect 100 is still the production. The instrumentals are genius, but the vocals seem to be recorded at home with a really bad mic and it just doesn't match the feel. The depth of vocals and gapless playback (which would help this album to be more fluent) would make this album a real gem. ... read more
I'm too generous with these 100s but this album had a massive impact on me today. I just wanna hug W. Doyle now. Man, don't stop creating this beautiful music!
Many people will complain about their new direction, but let's just not compare Portico to Portico Quartet. It's just a new project, and its atmosphere is amazing.
