Viscerally disgusting

Swans - Deliquescence

So sad that there's no way of accessing this aside from *cough* Soulseek. A tragedy.

Caravan Palace - <|°_°|>

Underappreciated little album. Seeing this band live was my first experience seeing music I had found for myself, although really it was through YouTube recommending 'Lone Digger'. The time before this was seeing Ed Sheeran live, having received free tickets, and Ed really made me doubt live music before I had really been exposed to it. This band, even though my taste in music has expanded a hundred-fold since, is special for me personally, although the bulk of their material (especially their ... read more

Catchy, and quite unique. Barkley's vocals work well with Danger Mouses' production for the most part: when it works, it works very well, and when it doesn't work, it isn't for a long enough stretch that the next song won't make up for it.

Not a perfect album, and obviously derivative from its forebearers in soul, but the production lends it a very 2000s feeling; a nostalgic sound which hangs in this weird place between seeming old (Barkley's vocals) and new (aspects of the production). ... read more

Coming soon! To be listened to without registering it, in a Starbucks near you!

Blonde Redhead - Sit Down for Dinner

Homeopathic.

This is pretty good, until you compare it to 'Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons', and you realise how diluted the whole project is away from that far more impactful, genuine sound.

The main problem with this band seems to be that they are easily influenced by whatever the predominant genre is at a given time. They've proven in the past that this can lead to experimentation and some genuinely impressive output, but here it feels as though the band has made a pointed effort to ... read more

This man has been rapping for almost a quarter of a century...

Code Orange - The Above

At its best, it sounds like a half-hearted imitation of Nine Inch Nails' instrumentation without any of Trent Reznor's passion or vocal skill. At its worst, it sounds like a Nu-Metal project from the Nostalgia Critic.

Lil Shine - Lovesick

A slug crawling up and down a MacBook Pro could have made this album, but Lil Shine cannot do most things a slug can do.

Lil Tecca - TEC

Just an utter nothing of an album. AI generated type beats. Who can genuinely feel anything listening to this?

Kylie Minogue - Tension

The Apple Music introduction / prologue to this album is unintentionally hilarious.

Minogue wrote a little paragraph about each song.

If you read these paragraphs with the album in the background, you'll be listening along to some of the most generic shit you've heard all year, but her quote about it will either be about how 'weird' the structure of the track is (it's entirely normal), how the lyrics are 'existential' (they're standard, bland dance-pop lyrics), or how it took months / years ... read more

Empire State Bastard - Rivers Of Heresy

The extreme abrasiveness of the vocals combined with the uninventive, but sometimes semi-catchy, riffs, make this record feel simultaneously boring and annoying.

The title is cliche.
'Palms of Hands' is good.
I like the cover.
