Catchy, and quite unique. Barkley's vocals work well with Danger Mouses' production for the most part: when it works, it works very well, and when it doesn't work, it isn't for a long enough stretch that the next song won't make up for it.

Not a perfect album, and obviously derivative from its forebearers in soul, but the production lends it a very 2000s feeling; a nostalgic sound which hangs in this weird place between seeming old (Barkley's vocals) and new (aspects of the production). ... read more

At its best, it sounds like a half-hearted imitation of Nine Inch Nails' instrumentation without any of Trent Reznor's passion or vocal skill. At its worst, it sounds like a Nu-Metal project from the Nostalgia Critic.

A slug crawling up and down a MacBook Pro could have made this album, but Lil Shine cannot do most things a slug can do.

The extreme abrasiveness of the vocals combined with the uninventive, but sometimes semi-catchy, riffs, make this record feel simultaneously boring and annoying.
