Metropolis Pt. 2 better give me $15 million US, a car a blowjob and a decent cookie with all the schlock I've gone through with these early Dream Theater albums.
The big consensus of my opinion of Dream Theater (at lest their early work) is that while technically it's pretty good, it's pretty lackluster. My big gripe with this album is that, while it does house some really great stuff in it (Burning My Soul is a banger) it's far too bloated for me to really give it the proper time I would give any other record. It's just so much it because stomach churning. And while the music doesn't really ever dip into truly bad territories, it's just so clique and I've heard bands doing this better. Granted, it is better then Awake, which ironically put me to sleep. It's one of the better albums to come out of this era for the band i'm sure and it does have some catchy melodies, but it's still way too bloated for me to call it truly great. When listening to these albums, it always feels like I have to listen to it, as apposed to actually enjoying it.
