NewDad - MADRA

cool soundscape, somber but also inspiring? tasteful and emotive production with very dreamy vocals. the instrumentalism is super aesthetic in all the right ways

The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstasy

trees are plants but we still love them

a cunty collection of sexy and seductive electropop bops. very consistently fun listen, would almost definitely be better if i was on coke though. really enjoyed the darker synth sounds on tracks like Purr and Plastic, or even the classic house vibes on Girl Like Me, some of the other tracks border on generic tbh.

meow.

Favs: Memories Of You, Plastic, Girl Like Me, Out Of Time

Tinashe - BB/ANG3L

immersive, smooth, not as risky as i'd hoped

short and sharp alt r&b project. I really enjoyed the tracks with more immersive soundscapes, but less so the more traditional r&b cuts in the middle. decent overall but not outstanding, would like to see her lean into the more experimental sounds even more.

Favs: Treason, Tightrope

The Veronicas - Hook Me Up

i struggled so much deciding on a rating with this album. i LOVED the Veronicas when i was young. but fuck, listening to this album now makes me realise how it's genuinely one of the most inconsistent albums i've literally ever heard.

some songs are genuinely the most amazing electro alt-pop bangers i've ever heard, and most are god-awful fillers with absolutely cringe-inducing production - it's literally all over the place with quality. my read is that they were trying to establish a ... read more

such a classic in the dance pop genre, and a very consistent and engaging listen even now. fun sound experimentation for the time too, including some heavier vibes on tracks like How Soon Is Now? which were underrated imo. All The Things She Said is honestly one of the goat 2000s pop tracks; young queer girls would probs remember be oddly fixated watching the music video on tv lmao. unexpectedly formative song when looking in retrospect.

Spiritbox - Eternal Blue

very decent metalcore album from one of my fav bands in the scene. while the album does flow well, I always have the same frustration when it comes to Spiritbox. imo their strengths would shine best when mixing clean and dirty vocals on the same track - however they so rarely do this and i don't really know why. feels like they are intentionally trying to achieve two separated sounds rather than owning a more unique hybrid which i think they would excel at.

WILLOW - <COPINGMECHANISM>

poppy punky pop punk album. fun unexpected project from nepo baby WILLOW. consistent but nothing special tbh. would have benefitted from some changes in pacing and some influence from other genres outside of what she's channeling; which is interesting considering she's very much a genre chameleon in other projects.

Favs: <maybe> it's my fault, hover like a GODDESS, No Control

Wolf Alice - Visions of a Life
100

a real masterpiece - this album is a showcase of Wolf Alice's numerous strengths. its a rollercoaster of sound in the perfect way; ethereal and otherworldly walls of sound, beautifully floating vocal harmonies, and middle finger moments of punky indie rock. such a comprehensive experience of the Wolf Alice sound and executed perfectly.

Lorde - Melodrama

holy fuck this album is so beautiful. it's emotional, aesthetic, and just feels so whole. absolutely flawless production and vocals. very consistently paced from front to back, with peaks and valleys and an incredible balance of energy. it takes the listener on an immersive and empathetic journey. a real magnum opus.

Genesis Owusu - Smiling With No Teeth

fun record with engaging production and that paradoxically smooth but jumpy Genesis flow. some huge highlights but kinda lacks consistency with it's energy.

Favs: Centrefold, Smiling with No Teeth, Black Dogs!, Easy

FKA twigs - LP1

every second of this album is a beautiful and intensely immersive journey. truly otherworldly, ethereal and enlightening. another transformative album that forever changed how I experience and appreciate the width and breadth of pop music

Jessie Ware - That! Feels Good!

funky goddess queen slay

KUČKA - Wrestling

stratospheric synthpop with hot air balloon vocals, consistent but some of the synth hooks are a little grindy for my liking.

Favs: Ascension, Your World, Real

Lisa Mitchell - Wonder

Baby Queen - Quarter Life Crisis

yooo this is super fun. great songwriting, clever lyricism. feels dreamy, cheeky and cute, while also being angsty and even a lil sassy. i had a good time.

The Kid LAROI - THE FIRST TIME

i like how he's trending as an artist, but this album is too long, too uniform, and not interesting enough to keep my dumb tiktok zoomer brain engaged. has some decent highs but just bleeds together at a certain point.

Favs: sorry, where do you sleep?, love again, kids are growing up.

Britney Spears - Blackout

this album is the mona lisa of dance pop and no, i won't be taking any questions

Dua Lipa - Houdini

golly gosh i'm so keen for the album
