i-dle - We are i-dle

I will never in my life listen to any of these even once. Soojin deserves better. Dropping this now feels wrong on so many levels. it's been a while since I left a review/comment on the site, and it's a shame it has to be for this reason.

I don't see any reasons to release versions of their ot6 songs without Soojin. Fans of the group adore Soojin and always hoped to see her coming back. We saw details in their ot5 project that could be seen as references to Soojin. But it seems ... read more

ARTMS - <BURN>

Coming up with a review for this release is harder than I thought. Perhaps I simply lost the habit of writing, so it's kinda like if I was new to this, but I'm not! “BURN” represents a lot of things for LOONA's lore, but I'm not ready to dive into that here. In short, it was supposed to be huge and super good, and it ended up the way we know, with the group dropping one of their weakest EP. Enough of that now; there's a song that needs to be reviewed, and ... read more

𝐍𝐌𝐈𝐗𝐗 𝐚ðĨ𝐰𝐚ðē𝐎 𝐟ðĻðŦ𝐰𝐚ðŦ𝐝

ð’„Ž When I first listened to NMIXX in 2022, I was hesitant with their music, I thought there was an original idea, but original means everything and nothing at the same time. In the case of 𝘈𝘋 𝘔𝘈𝘙𝘌, it meant surprising, but perhaps too surprising, and all over the place. Today, we could argue that it was just “too new” and that listeners weren’t ready for this type of sound yet, ... read more

ð’„Ž LE SSERAFIM returns on the right track with a new EP that finally dishes the boring-looking and blank album covers.

ð’„Ž Solo debuts are always a tricky thing because with them, comes a lot of expectations. However, ITZY’s music has been pretty confusing so as we get into YEJI’s debut, the chances of getting disappointed are rather low. In the worst case, we get something the same level as ITZY’s recent music, and in all the other scenarios, it’s better. And guess what, it is indeed ... read more

ZEROBASEONE - BLUE PARADISE

I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed this EP. Not that ZEROBASEONE never amazed me before, but on 𝘉𝘓𝘜𝘌 𝘗𝘈𝘙𝘈𝘋𝘐𝘚𝘌 there isn't a single song that left me a bit disappointed compared to the other tunes.

The opener and main song “BLUE”, is a perfect way to start the project with its positive and lighthearted energy. The chorus is super appealing, and I can’t seem to get enough of it at the moment. The best thing is how that energy is ... read more

RESCENE - Glow Up

RESCENE have been on the right track since their debut with the fantastic “YoYo” about a year ago. On 𝘚𝘊𝘌𝘕𝘌𝘋𝘙𝘖𝘔𝘌 the group tasted influence from other genres, but on 𝘎𝘭𝘰ð˜ļ ð˜œð˜ą, the sound direction is clearer. The focus is on a cohesive assemblage of pretty laid-back dance-pop, nu-disco and synth funk pieces (except for the great “In ly lotion”). I find each song to be effortlessly catchy and the overall tone of the project is ... read more

LISA - Born Again

You can definitely hear Raye's touch on this and I am so here for it. I don't want to compare her work with her group mate, but Lisa might he about to release the best solo album out of Blackpink.

JENNIE - Love Hangover
70

I pretty much enjoyed all the singles so far, but I'm scared the album will end up as a compilation of singles/playlist-ready songs, more than a cohesive project in terms of sound. I think track order will be important for the album flow.

ð’„Ž 𝘛𝘏𝘜𝘕𝘋𝘌𝘙 𝘍𝘌𝘝𝘌𝘙’s is CIX’s first release as a quartet, following the departure of Bae Jin Young (aug. 2024), who was often regarded as the most popular member due to his time with Wanna One. ð’„Ž If you have read any of my reviews for (G)I-DLE’s music, you know how much I love anything Minnie co-wrote/produced. There is something about her taste for dream-like atmosphere that I adore, and I was hoping to get more or less the same mood for her solo debut. However, it seems things are taking another exciting turn, ditching the misty envelope for a few flashes of lightning.

Slushii - Money

Hold on... Slushii and Hyoyeon???

Back in 2015, I found out about Slushii through Marshmello and got so obsessed with him, I'd stan him the same way I would stan K-pop acts a few years later. I listened to him daily, had pics on my phone, and followed his SNS. I eventually grew out of EDM, to fall into K-pop. Girls' Generation has never been part of my ult groups because when I got into the genre, they weren't doing much, and other groups were way more active, but still, I ... read more

NEW GFRIEND!

I love the J-pop/Yakousei influence on “Season of Memories”, which can be linked to the participation of Japanese songwriters Shintaro Yasuda (LE SSARAFIM's “ANTIFRAGILE”, a few XG songs like ”WOKE UP”, Giselle's “DOPAMINE”, … ) and Takayuki "Kojiro" Sasaki, a Japanese guitarist. Kojiro's guitar is present almost throughout the track but shines when it accompanies each of the girls' voices to form ... read more

It's a very tender and warm record, but perhaps a little too safe for me. I would have liked some bigger moments, either by blending in some indietronica here and there or by using more engaging melodies. It remains a pleasing listen regardless. My favourite is “All We Could Do”, Kate and Sam's gorgeous voices are so great together.

"@ShadeRD I have accepted the "no-return" of Soojin (her solo debut made it clear), but still I find that they were playing with the fans by hinting at her. I'm not annoyed at them releasing those songs, as it does make sense and every group ends up doing it. It's more about how it's done. But again, I have zero idea of the real situation, what they're allowed to do or not and the making process. Idk if what seems like Soojin's references are intentional or not. I repeat myself but I guess I needed to let that out last night and then thought about it again haha! In conclusion: I don't know anything about the situation and therefore shouldn't assume anything either, because then I'm just creating conspiracy theories, which I deeply hate! 2/2"
On i-dle - We are i-dle
"@ShadeRD You're right it's probably just about publishing, performance's rights. While it's true many other groups did that, but they do it in the following months or so, and songs are often put at the end of another album, or without promo. To me it's a little weird that it's done now and not earlier, and I struggle with the way they used her name/image for marketing strategy (it looks like that did at least). But we have no idea of what happens behind the scenes and some stuff take times and are beyond our understanding. In the end we're here overanalyzing something far more complex than it seems. As listeners we only see the outcome and not everything that comes before which can make up come up with wrong interpretation. 1/2"
