Mostly sounds like honestly nevermind by drake. A couple okay tracks but not worth returning to. Awful lyrics as well.
The vibe and scenery is more vivid and unique than any other album I’ve heard of. Personally I would have liked him to lean even more into singing like he does on the singles. Also forgone is genuinely one of the best songs I’ve heard.
Absolutely amazing instrumentals and soul crushing progressions and song structure. I love the atmospheric production and the shoegaze influence. Not the biggest fan of the vocals, though they work in many of the heavier moments. Sometimes it just sounds like rykard from elden ring if his screaming was drowned out in reverb and buried so heavily under the instrumental that it is next to impossible to make out the lyrics. While it probably holds this album back from being around a 90 for me, I ... read more
Love the songs that take a more moody and gothic tone but probably wont revisit the songs that sound straight out of the 80s
Honestly cant even listen to any new kanye with a straight face. Its all so disingenuous
I was not expecting how good this album was going to sound. I would not be surprised if my rating just goes up more and more while I dive deeper. Listening to Ginkgo gave me a similar feeling for the first time I listened to the fishmans. The dreaminess had me on a cloud while the dynamics had me on my toes. I was on my toes, on a cloud.
I cannot deny the amazing songwriting and lush production. I want to spend more time with it but my initial thoughts are that there are a few really good songs but some of them fall into the back ground. Ants from up there definitely had more bangers and felt like more of a cohesive project. But other than that, all the singles are absolutely amazing and I cant wait to dive even more into the rest of the album.
Pure bliss. We as a human race don't deserve Long Season. Let alone the 13 other amazing tracks
Unbelievable album. Fantastic songwriting and production. I can't get enough of the noisy mixing. I was originally at a 95 for this album because I wasn't sure about dish rags or revisited but after further listening, this thing is right up my alley. 10/10
This thing sort of blew my expectations out of the water. Overall just really, really solid shoegaze songs. Reminded me a lot of slowdive. Mandy is just on another level though.
Just banger after banger. The unique guitar tone is enough to make a great album. The switch between the pristine, twinkly, melancholic female vocals and the slow-burning, dreary, and tired male vocals creates a somewhat linear story. Easy to follow without much thought. Unreal album.
Intriguing story, excellent songwriting, unbelievable production. Drive home is one vibe after another
Same ideas as the debut, but sounds a little more finished and polished. Still some moments that could be more complete.
Not many albums are able to convey so many different emotions while remaining in the same world the whole way through. The album reminds me of fire. A controlled, warm, and quiet fire for the most parts, but with tracks like “Samurai Sword” and “I Want to Be Cold”, can seem more like a forest fire. Regardless, this album is something raw and warm, unlike the awful feeling of electric heat.
The concept and lyrics are lush, sensual, and dreamy, similar to the warm but distant guitars layers that make up “In Rainbows”
TPAB is the kind of album that comes once in a generation. There are plenty of conscious rap albums with jazz influences but no one has done it like To Pimp A Butterfly. This was a phenomenon of influence, resources, political climate, and respect that will never be unlocked again, possibly not even by the man himself. Almost as if album only existed because of the finely tuned circumstances that birthed such a masterpiece.
