Considering my very mixed thoughts on ujbeats 2, i was a little let down at the announcement of this being a ujbeats project as well, but it actually held up rlly rlly well compared to uj 2
catjammer and Te Amo are easily the weakest tracks here, and i don't care for the Ra-mu-ne remix that much, but i also think ra-mu-ne as it's original song is pretty mid soooooo
but, ichigo milk is some rlly rlly nice kawaii future bass, natsu no kaze is like incredibly beautiful and exactly what i ... read more
not really familiar with Screamo as a genre, but if i put aside any unfamiliarity, Its overall a really solid noise rock/pop album with pleasant instrumentation and a solid performance all around
take me back to the 25 minute ep...... part 3.........
what a lengthy endeavor already. this over an hour long release from Xxtarlit seems to take 4 different sides, all being named after star signs, something i'd be fine with if not for the worst section having my own sign, so now the naming of this is stupid, wrong, and i hate it.
in more seriousness though, I think this album had moments where i was definitely more impressed with its content in moments, but it still feels like ... read more
continuing the run of this full discog look, part 2 ig...
Still a pretty rough around the edges early release from her, but in all honestly, when the tracks are shortened and feel more like there's both a clear idea and not an extremely dragged out nature of said idea's length, this album does kinda succeed. I can very easily say i liked DREAMER, it was easily too long and shoulda done more overall, but it did diversify itself enough throughout it's 5 minutes for me to enjoy it, ... read more
So like 7 or so months ago I was gonna listen through xxtarlits full streaming discography and review it cause no other artist has made me so curious and eluded by their music.
and then i uh, didn't
so im back! now looking through her bandcamp discography instead, which i've paid for, which hopefully motivates me to like actually remember to listen to everything.
Overall, this EP definitely has the repetitive droning nature of a lot of Xxtarlit's future music, which in some ... read more
picks up towards the end, but really its just barely above a mediocre pop album
overall strong, and a welcome detour in style from her first EP, although it all remains pretty harmless in style. either way, its pretty polished and doesn't really have a bad track.
im ponied the fuck up
Vylet Pony is one of those artists thats been on my "ill get around to listening eventually" list for a while ever since i heard "Cross (I believe in you)" a year and a half ago, and thought it was one of those tracks i was confused at how nice it sounded on first listen, which is a feeling of confusion that happens every now and then to me. Sometime last year when Monarch and Monsters dropped, i had planned to listen to it, but like never really got ... read more
if i had a nickel for every time brakence featured on a song with some incredible bass guitar id have two nickels
overall, nothing too special from either of them here, it's good, but im not wowed by it, it feels like a song that'll feel a lot better in whatever context the album provides it in, which makes me question the decision to have this as a single, but im not gonna complain at an earlier release of something from brakence, even if its not his own song.
However, this is ... read more
admittedly, way too short, but to see porter robinson and ryan hall on the same project makes me so happy, plus it's not like any song here misses the mark, it just feels like a fun little detour, which would kinda explain it being a "sidequest"
if anything i think i just got what i came for, and in all respect, i cant complain.
I think there's some lengthy review i can put together here, but my thoughts here are very akin to my thoughts on why i gave Guardian a 10. there's nothing i can see wrong about this, and at the same time, i love it all, no significant connection needed.
go listen to this album by the ocean, my 3rd or so listen was done doing that, and there's no better way to truly enjoy a piece of art so fluid and atmospheric like this.
easily the best alien pop release even as an avid ap4 lover, but in 4 tracks this one clears any of the others
also its got some of the best use of these sorta phony overprocessed vocals
only perfect alien pop so far
those last 6 minutes of close your eyes hit a level of beauty and polish that i cant believe
its really as amazing and transcendent as i imagined it being, it doesn't feel like the same shock of quality, just this gorgeous atmosphere that carries my brain into these deep colorful spaces submerged in nothing but the music
edit: the next day:
ok so i just heard this in sequence with se bueno and kaleidoscope, and wow.
Se Bueno was atmospheric to the point of creating a soundscape so ... read more
oh ooo woa
half this ep/collection/compilation/thing is pretty decent, the other half is some of the best nostalgic synthpop ive ever heard, with 21/04/20 being one of the really few good things to come out of april 2020, speaking generally not in music.
also! little detail as a proud owner of the cd, the album art on streaming resembles a paining on an easel, but the cd features the same black and white general colors, but is more of a classic image print just meant to resemble a print onto ... read more
THIS IS AN ALBUM OPENER and it does an insane job at that. this track is (mostly) drumless because according to porter it doesnt work as well with them included, and i will accept that cause im a little bit of a porter fan.
love the piano summoning porter's arrival, shoutout @wyy2k that's oomf he made it onto the jumbotron from that statement.
anyway banger and probably the most in terms of porter releases we're getting for the rest of this year so ill honestly take it
my two favorite artists of all time (Snail's house, Porter Robinson) both have songs with league that also happened during the same event, wild coincidence, unfortunately, league of legends
threw my phone into a wall ACCIDENTALLY while listening, banger
as a drummer with a big obsession on awkward time signatures, the third sanctuary is genuinely a gift
came here for quadeca, was dissapointed one of his tracks was cut, the one with a wonky ass beat that was teased pre-vanisher annoucement on an ig story with like the "do u understand" caption, this is a horrible intro to a review, but i think moderate disappointment sums up my feelings on this record.
soooooo i just wrote like a page or two worth of text on a dnb album like 40 minutes ago, so jumping into a reivew for this is weird to me cause part of me thinks i dont know what to ... read more
