I’ve only heard Illmatic before hearing this album, and I found myself impressed with the energy that Nas shows and the on point production even almost 30 years after his alleged “masterpiece”. Incredible album.
I get the appeal of this record and why people call this a 10/10, I really do, but outside of a few tracks this really isn’t for me.
I really liked some of the production ideas, but generally the tracks on here are unmemorable and repetitive collages of sounds looped for a few minutes, and I miss the point (Superheroes being the prime example).
Opener ‘One More Time’ is probably one of the best songs on the entire albums, with the powerful refrain of “ONE MORE ... read more
Listening to this LP, and having only listened to Lift Your Skinny Fists beforehand, something I can notice is that the builds on this start with some subtle instrumentals and develop during the whole length of the song, usually 20 minutes, which make them all the more rewarding when they eventually culminate into something grand and elaborate. I personally prefer the multiple builds on their 2000 LP, but these are also extremely enjoyable. The shorter tracks feel like pointless interludes, ... read more
THIS IS KANYE'S BEST RELEASED ALBUM (probably) and also the one that's closest to my heart.
I love these types of albums by Kanye. Loaded with interludes and skits, these album truly feel like EXPERIENCES, instead of merely a collection of songs. Kanye also invents what will be one of the most prevalent types of samples in all of hip-hop, invents it, and masters it in his debut. Cuts on this album range from beautiful (Family Business) to straight up bangers (Two Words). In conclusion, I ... read more
It’s my first time listening to the genre psychedelic rock and I’ve been told that this is one of the most pristine and best records of this era. Well, I guess it didn’t really click for me, because more like psychedelic rock it sounds like rock on psychedelics, because the main singer sounds asleep as if he was drugged out half the fucking time killing any momentum that the production can establish. Maybe this is the point but if so I don’t get it whatsoever, because ... read more
Trash. Worst album I've listened to yet in my music experience. This is gonna be hard to beat in terms of bad music.
Journey Through Randomly Picked Albums by AOTY - 1st Entry

Clicking the “random album” button for the first time catapulted me into a world of… German pop music?
Xavier Naidoo is a German singer, songwriter and producer who started his carrier in the early to mid 90s, releasing popular solo albums and having an all around successful carrier (he even had a collab with RZA from Wu Tang!).
This album, in particular, is a compilation of all of his hits from previous ... read more
I'll have to revisit the album to give my definitive score, sooner or later. During my first listen I was amazed and my jaw dropped a couple of times, so I look forward to coming back to this.
One of the first albums that I ever listened to in full, and the first JPEGMAFIA project I ever listened to, this thing truly blew me away, even relistening to it.
This album is packed with experimental and creative sampling ideas and beat choices, not to mention Peggy’s rapping (and singing) on this project is on point and accompanies the different beats throughout the album perfectly.
I’d say that there is not a bad song on here, but my favourites include:
‘DIKEMBE!’, ... read more
After five years of leaving us albumless, Daddy Kendrick (😳) returns with one of his best albums yet. 'Good Kid m.A.A.d City' was him describing his upcoming, 'To Pimp A Butterfly' reflects on self-worth and modern day racism, 'DAMN.' is a story of Kendrick's death and his life flashing before his eyes, and this latest release is a therapeutic session presented through a theatrical play.
Truly one of his most polished and elegant albums, Kendrick delivers an amazingly well paced project ... read more
A slightly longer review, expressing my thoughts on this album more in depth and my reasons on the score I gave.
Before hopping into this project, I truly wanted to love this. I was a huge fan of Anderson's collaboration with Bruno Mars last year and I really liked Malibu. From what I had heard about it, it felt like this record was his own 'To Pimp A Butterfly'.
It gives that vibe, as well, with the grand opening on the opening track, 'The Chase', which is a beautiful track, surely one of his ... read more
