Not too much to write home for, naturally the Fromjoy feature was sick. I personally do not like how low the vocals sound compared to the music, they feel drowned out. The instrumentals are peak and I appreciate the references to internet phenomenon like the Bob Hickman quote at the end. Regardless, when this album goes hard, it goes hard as shit. evanescence was never the most ground breaking band, even their iconic Fallen has a lot of repetitive ideas. While that album does shine due to how well the vocals and pianos mix, even its aethereal vibe. Sanctuary fails to recapture that energy. Hyperclean bland alt-metal guitar riffs (courtesy of Jordan Fish) clash horribly with the melodramatic vocals. I appreciate how this band has managed to hold the same level of emotion and quality of their sound without recycling the same ideas, very impressive for a band this late in their career. Hum of Hurt is one of their most emotional records in my opinion. Songs like I Wont Let You Go and It Only Gets Worse have such emotional and personal lyrics which is a very grim reflection on our current world.
