While I'm fired up and reviewing classic albums that shaped the post-hardcore and modern hardcore scene, I'd like to review my favorite album from this era, that being Songs About Fucking by Big Black. If you pay attention to the post-hardcore scene you have definitely heard the name mentioned at one point because they're heavily influential and quite well respected for their forward thinking attitude in their career. To give context to the sound, during the late 80s, the ... read more

ZOMBIESHARK! - ANGEL NOISES, YOU'RE SAFE NOW.

Not too much to write home for, naturally the Fromjoy feature was sick. I personally do not like how low the vocals sound compared to the music, they feel drowned out. The instrumentals are peak and I appreciate the references to internet phenomenon like the Bob Hickman quote at the end. Regardless, when this album goes hard, it goes hard as shit. The heavy cybergrind elements are absolutely stupid hard and the closing track is a complete banger. The atmospheric robotic stuff is sick too and ... read more

evanescence was never the most ground breaking band, even their iconic Fallen has a lot of repetitive ideas. While that album does shine due to how well the vocals and pianos mix, even its aethereal vibe. Sanctuary fails to recapture that energy. Hyperclean bland alt-metal guitar riffs (courtesy of Jordan Fish) clash horribly with the melodramatic vocals. It seems like the band is jumping on the trend of inoffensive alt metal and sacrificing what made them unique by doing so. I dont think ... read more

I appreciate how this band has managed to hold the same level of emotion and quality of their sound without recycling the same ideas, very impressive for a band this late in their career. Hum of Hurt is one of their most emotional records in my opinion. Songs like I Wont Let You Go and It Only Gets Worse have such emotional and personal lyrics which is a very grim reflection on our current world. This album also brings in more crust and sludge influence than what we typically see. Each song ... read more

Just a bunch of br00tal kids having fun and making stupid music. Infinitely more enjoyable than Architects or other serious modern metalcore bands.
