KOOL A.D.'s trademark braggadocio and clever, half-seriousness are stronger in PARTS of this mixtape than they have felt in a LONG while.... I feel overdue for a KOOL A.D. project composed of the strongest elements of this one...
As with most of his better releases, I find myself oscillating between clutching my sides with laughter and nodding along. There are however... lots of awful tracks...
Best: DAWN, COLD REMINISCIN', LAPSANG SOUCHONG
Going into this with an open mind... trying to see it in the sort of... music-analogue of an abstract visual piece... I enjoyed it.
The haunting quality that his voice can posses is the most pronounced I have ever heard it here.
Almost Blue...
Patience is required. I experienced this tape as a nostalgic tour of samples that could be seen to represent different era's of someone's adolescent/mischievous life... In that sense its a rowdy ride!
Holy fuck. I've had this album since I was 8. I can still cry to it. Even after childishly listening to every song on repeat on my CD player back in them aughts...
On a more objective level, there is no dead space here. For every charged emotional track that Dylan belts out, there is adequate balance in the cheerful or ballad side of the record to make it a grand tour of beautiful song writing and honest emotion
Dylan's career comes full circle. From imitating the rasp of seasoned folk/blues artists in Greenwich Village.. To being one on this album.
Interpreted as (literally) musical drawings of a culture and and its buildings, landscape, poeple, traditions... This piece blows me away.
Had to grow on me. Once it did I was very happy I gave it some time.
Listening to EVERYTHING that's going on in a song helps appreciate this band 1000x times more.
Felt like a million tendrils of melody intertwined around one core theme. For me, and my experience level in this genre, I was AMAZED that nothing felt missing and nothing felt like excess in this album.
experiences I had near when I picked this up made me think higher of it... before...
its still an amazing record...
Growers and showers... This one's both. As far as charged indie rock goes, this record is peak. Speaking from not really having followed Car Seat Headrest chronologically... I think this is their best album...
Not much of a microhouse connoisseur *cringe* but I found these songs really original and they stood out far beyond the mess of EDM trash that I've heard recently.... lol
Some of the songs were really driving indie rock pieces... but other struck me as obnoxious frankly...
