Chaining Thomas Köner's abstract ambience to grubby, cavernous beats, this collection (including several early singles) could be the best release in the entire Basic Channel canon.

Resident Advisor

The production level is exceptional by today's standards, and it has more teeth than much of the music it inspired, especially contemporary dub techno, most of which sounds vanilla by comparison.

PopMatters

As dub techno experiences a renaissance and the Basic Channel catalogue sees the light of day again, Biokinetics will remind fans and newcomers of what could have been a lost classic of electronic music.

Pitchfork

Biokinetics is above all a music of tides, suggesting rhythm as both celestial stroke and as a vibration deep in the body, bubbling at the molecular level.

It's a night like any other. The nightclub rages on, pounding techno music sweeping the dance floor as people let their worries fly past them for that brief period of time. The same drinks are being served to the same customers, looking for the same thing you are.

You came here looking for an escape.

You take a wrong turn on your trip down a nearby hall. As you begin to lose yourself in the corridors, it feels as if something is shifting. You just don't know what. You return to the same club ... read more

Love it or hate it... Anyway this album is out of this world!

You, the AOTY user who only takes his pleasure on a underground and obscure music, get ready to take a dub-techno lesson. You've been warned. The demanding label Type has tried to hit hard, very hard, for its 100th release. Instead of calling a famous figure, the label preferred to exhume an unknown Porter Ricks album, "Biokinetics", released in 1996 on the seminal Chain Reaction.

But how could such an album have gone ... read more

A legitimately spellbinding debut from German duo Porter Ricks (cool name). This is one of the few records I can say completely and utterly enveloped me in a kind of thrill that genuinely marked me, in the time that I was giving it a listen.

Here's the thing; the unique experience "Biokinetics" provides comes down to the fact that it does absolutely feel like it is actually alive. Now stay with me here: whilst it is categorically a concept album about the course of a nautical ... read more

This album isn’t bad, but it isn’t good either. I’m gonna be honest and say that this ambient techno sound really isn’t for me. There are some interesting ideas that can come from it, and did come in this album, but overall when it comes to a cohesive full track, for the most part these ideas don’t really click and I really don’t get much out of most tracks. It’s not bad, and if you like this style of music you will probably like this album, it just ... read more

Great little ambient dub album! It was very well produced but it did feel a bit repetitive at points, but I loved the sound so not a big issue. Banging bass and some excellent synth make this an awesome listen!
