To start voting, I suggest that you take into account that this album is the first album work of the group. The guitarist has three side projects: "Dark Vision", "Dizziness", "Utkena". I think he the mastery and maturity of the guitar tones owe to this. "Disease" and "Sinner" are my two favorites from the album that followed each other with almost the same perfection. Towards the end of the song "Purge" you see their transition to a ... read more
Everything was in its place except for second track "Det som en gång var (det kommer aldrig igen)". A classic, mature black metal album.
I likened the ambiance they wanted to give with synths and strings in some pieces to Summoning.
I would have thought this album a average success if they hadn't had such a good post effects on "In Exile" and "Lethe" despite their dominant use of metalcore and djent. This is the first time I've come across post metal effects in this genre, and it looks great.
It still remains the top album of Tribulation despite the passing of years. After this album, they changed their style sharply, they started doing gothic heavy metal/rock. It wasn't bad but I think they wasted it when their potential was at this album level. While blending death, black, progressive and gothic metal in this album, they even use instrumental piano, post and blackgaze inspirations from time to time. The cover was made by former member of the group, Jonathan Hulten. He is an ... read more
We can say death doom as a general genre, but sometimes stoner and gothic effects are also striking. It's a nice choice, trying to create an 80's and 90's sound. Reminds me of Tribulation, Dool, Paradise Lost. I can't say it's amazing, but if we take into account that this album is their first, it is possible to say that they were successful.
I want to say a lot, but I will choose a simpler way: I WOULD SACRIFICE MANY THINGS IN MY LIFE TO HEAR ALL THE SONGS ON THIS ALBUM LIVE. 10/10 among 2023 albums for now.
For as long as I can remember, I love the use of piano in metal music. In this album, the piano dominates the entire album. Post-Truth, ends with a perfect piano fall. Friend or Foe? has synth influences. Is that bad, no, I don't see it as a problem as long as it's used appropriately. On The Place Where I Belong, is the saddest song of the album, I felt that the artist was inspired by Opeth - Burden, starting at 03:11. Needless to say Big Tech Brother is my favorite on the album and it's ... read more
Aha, here we go. This is going to be a very serious comment. As someone who has mastered the entire discography of Katatonia quite a lot, I think I have the right to make this comment.
First of all, I was very curious about how the critical votes were given. Is the album bad? No. But is it wonderful? It's not either. Can we say that this is one of the best albums of Katatonia, no. So, what is 90 points awarded for? Weird.
As for my album review, they continue on the path they drew for ... read more
Since it is in the post black metal genre, it is natural that it resembles Alcest, Heretoir, Les Discartes etc. But they provided the ambiance that should be given so well that I felt deep down the feeling that a post black metal album should create for you the most, "I can now die in a piece of peace and agony".
While listening to this album, I realized that I don't like the screamo style in general because when I came across this type of vocal in black metal/dsbm it didn't interest me. A successful album on its own, I'm sure it made its fans happy. But it didn't for me.
An avant-prog album that doesn't appeal to everyone, that makes you feel the confusion and chaos while listening to it. It is an album that belongs to many different layers of music, where you will go back and forth between not being able to endure those mixed notes and enjoying it.
I like piano and synth effects so generally I liked the album. But the thing that liked me the most on this album was the enormous similarity of the intro of the song "Maybe" to Björk's song "Possibly Maybe". In addition, the name also sounds similar. I am absolutely sure that the artist was inspired by this.
The album had an average level, but I think I will listen to his song "Whore Of Babylon" with the same enthusiasm throughout my life. Whispered vocals, heavy-gothic guitar riffs, and the song's lyrics with "satanic" elements enthralled me. It's already on my favorite songs list.
I was horribly excited about this thing when I noticed the band and the album on Bandcamp even before the album was released. For me, the fact that band project from China but used the Greek alphabet is a very eccentric detail.
As for my album review, they never let my excitement down. Even though it's just the beginning of the year, I came across a perfectly mature album.
I remembered Imperial Triumphant with some avant-garde breezes, and I felt Misþyrming's last album with its darkness ... read more
I am surprised that this album was released in 2019. It feels like it was made in the 90's. Also, as someone who loves gothic metal, it was impossible not to enjoy this album.
If I hadn't known that Mikael Åkerfeldt made these soundtracks, I would have thought he did it again. I clearly felt the influences of Heritage, Pale Communion, Sorceress and In Cauda Venenum. Also, I got some signals on the pianos reminiscent of the Orchid era, Opeth's debut album, it was emotional. I saw that he used more synth-like attempts in some songs. It's good, but I hope he doesn't use such influences on his new album -I don't know, if he has such a thought- as most rock/metal ... read more
There is a general situation that I see in the songs on this album: Finished and automatically switched to the next song, you think about it but still the same song continues. As far as I'm concerned, they didn't manage to finish the songs in taste as a timing.
I caught some nice riffs, but there's something missing. I can't say it's bad or good. If I get a chance to listen to it a few more times, I'll update my review and rating.
