Ὁπλίτης [Hoplites] - Ψευδομένη

I was horribly excited about this thing when I noticed the band and the album on Bandcamp even before the album was released. For me, the fact that band project from China but used the Greek alphabet is a very eccentric detail.
As for my album review, they never let my excitement down. Even though it's just the beginning of the year, I came across a perfectly mature album.

I've been following the band for years, and I'm absolutely in love with their genre. In fact, I was incredibly excited to see they released a new album; being able to listen to their current work is a fantastic experience. "Favour" was so good instrumentally it gave me goosebumps. The clean vocals reminded me of Katatonia, while the brutal parts reflect the band's essence. I found the *post* feel I wanted in "Crush," so I think I'll choose that as my ... read more

I really enjoyed every song, the symphonic effects interspersed with the energetic guitar tones bring the experience to another level. I can't say it's perfect, but I can say it's an enjoyable and not tiring experience. Also, it's a big plus for me that they haven't deviated from their line after all these years and stayed true to their essence in terms of genre.

I want everyone to feel the moment when the rhythm changes in "Cynical" at least once. Also, the ending of this song is so magical that you feel as if they have deliberately trapped you in that moment forever. It's a very successful work, it's very clear that Deftones and Thornhill are among their influences, I will follow this band regularly from now on.

It is a technically perfect album, but I do not prefer such technical works in metal. Hearing similar associations from the bands Thornhill, Silent Planet, Void of Vision and Loathe excited me and helped me warm up to the album. My subjective score is 75, but my objective score is 90. I literally loved it.
