Frank Sinatra - In the Wee Small Hours

Instantly sucks me into a specific time and place, but I can't help but feel like each track that follows the opener becomes redundant and even nap inducing. I need some more listens when the winter months hit, I suppose. Give me time to come around.

Put down your copy of Grapes of Wrath and get your tater stew ready. Can't say this is something I'd listen to on the regular but it's certainly a lyrical blast from the past.

Fav - Dusty Old Dust (So Long It's been God to Know Yuh)

James Taylor - Sweet Baby James

James was blessed with a nice voice and a peaceful sound but the album as a whole doesn't do much to excite me. I can understand the allure of his calm demeanor but all emotions feel glossed over to me. Fire and Rain is very good though, but I hoped to find more gems and was disappointed.

Like getting a big hug from the most gentle man you will ever meet.

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

Somehow both austere and colorful, this album is an essential experience for music lovers. The lyrics, the vocals, and the compositions create the most incredible explosion of melodies track after track. Conceptual and quite the love letter to Illinois. With tons of interludes bearing rediculously long titles this one can certainly be a grower, but it gets better each time and never gets old.
