The production is generally excellent, but that alone can't rescue this bloated and bland effort from Drizzy.

I love the lo-fi synth direction MGMT went with here. Those first 3 tracks are an incredible way to open an album. After that it does tail off a bit with some tracks that sound nice but don't go anywhere. "Tslamp" is good though and "One Thing Left to Try" is the highlight of the second half.

Even though AnCo gets rid of their most abrasive instrumentation in favor of a stripped-down acoustic style of psychedelia, I still find this to be the hardest album of theirs to get into. The melodies are so obscured it'll take several listens for songs to finally click. And even then, certain tracks never do ("Visiting Friends"). Even with these obstacles, there's an undeniable pull and warmth this album has that kept me coming back for more.

There are definitely some tracks that could've been cut *cough* Daffy Duck *cough*, but there's no way I'm giving a record with the three tracks listed below on it anything below a 90.

I wish this record was a little more consistent and the more experimental parts weren't so abrasive. Penny Dreadfuls might be my favorite track by them ever though.

Whenever I get tired of the music I listen to day-to-day, I'll play this all the way through. The sampling here is incredibly impressive and there's so much variety from start to finish. It's unlike anything else in my library. "A Cold Freezin' Night" is one of the coolest songs I've ever heard.

I have similar feelings for this and Punisher. It's all very pretty but can drag on, especially in the second half. The melodies are stronger in this, but the production is better in Punisher.

Motion Sickness
Demi Moore
Scott Street
Dreaming Out Loud is the perfect pop rock record. Catchy enough to be memorable after one listen, and earnest without being cringy.

Apologize

I'm incapable of removing my nostalgia for this. This was the soundtrack to all of my bus rides to school in the 4th grade. Walkman on, headphones in, head against the cold bus window. Bliss.

I've really hated Alex Turner's voice ever since the Arctic Monkeys' guitars stopped drowning it out. It's probably half the reason the last AM record I enjoyed was Favorite Worst Nightmare. Apologies to dudes from Sheffield who might sound like that. Despite this little hurdle, I was excited to hear what many people were describing as AM's most ambitious record. I respect them for having the cajones to change their sound especially after such a successful album. Unfortunately it's more miss ... read more
