Jim Legxacy - idk idk
100

I've been obsessed with this man for a week and holy shit this song is so good. First of all the sample is amazing and I love the drums in this song. The bass is so satisfying as well I love how fluid it feels. It isn't overwhelming throughout the song either it's a really nice touch. I also love how the sample ties into the message of the song. That kind of sampling is one of my favorites. Idk what it is about this song I guess it just hit me at a good time. I'm excited to ... read more

A very standout Rage album in a sea of flops.

Che is a very interesting artist to me where he's always been in this sort of Rage subgenre but he's always pushed it to it's limit. The producers he works with experiment with some really cool synth sounds almost making his music sound ethereal sometimes and here it's no different. Before I was familiar with Che but after listening to this album in full I'm curious to see where he goes next.

Of course the beats on this ... read more

Maruja - Pain to Power
94

I wrote a pretty cool article on this album and seeing them in concert but it unfortunatly didn't get published so I wanted to share it here. Hopefully you enjoy. I like this album a lot. Very important album.

The Maruja Experience:

Maruja is an English “rock” band formed in Manchester consisting of four members: Harry Wilkinson on lead vocals and guitar, Joe Carroll on saxophone, Matt Buonaccorsi on bass, and Jacob Hayes on drums. They gained attention from their 2023 EP ... read more

Cameron Winter - Heavy Metal
87

Bought this thing on vinyl and found a larger appreciation for it.

Cameron Winter, known for being the lead singer of Geese, releases a passionate solo project. At this point I don't even know if you could consider him most known for Geese because I've heard this album getting buzz for a while, even before Getting Killed. The Geese craze has really exploded this year and I think this is a big component of their popularity. I also feel like I've seen some weird online memes about ... read more

Sora - re.sort
89

I've had a long break from writing these reviews but trust me I haven't stopped listening.

Sora is someone I was very unfamiliar with until a couple days ago when I found that this album was a very big influence on Nurture by Porter Robinson. I'd say I'm a pretty big fan of that album so I decided to check this one out and I was so glad I did because this was an album I really needed.

I love all of the elements being blended here. It's very much an electronic/ambient ... read more

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out
93

Coke summer again but more outwardly about coke.

Clipse is such a great rap group I was so excited when they announced this. Hell Hath No Fury is such a classic and an amazing album with boundary pushing production. Pusha T's solo career has some of my favorite albums and verses of all time. Malice has always been an amazing rapper. Why wouldn't I anticipate this album like hell? To be honest I saw the cover and I wasn't too thrilled. Album covers are really important to me and ... read more

JID - God Does Like Ugly

JID secret beef with JPEGMAFIA? W peggy rage bait?

JID at this point needs no introduction everyone either knows him for his amazingly consistent catalogue or at least from hits like Surround Sound or 151 Rum. After his 2022 album The Forever Story, which is probably still my favorite rap album of the decade, I was extremely curious on how he was going to top it or even come close to it's amazing flows, great bars, great bangers, and heartfelt thoughtful songs. JID is a very consistent ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - DON'T TAP THE GLASS
78

Fuck you Tyler I tapped the glass.

Everyone knows Tyler, The Creator at this point. What I'm interested in is the recent rollouts he's been partaking in. Chromakopia's rollout seemed very fast compared to other rollouts in recent memory. He kind of just announced it a month out and dropped it on a Tuesday? Now he announces this thing like four days before and drops it on a Monday? I mean I like how he's kind of not really making a big deal of it and saying here's my ... read more

Freddie Gibbs - Alfredo 2
85

This is a coke rap summer dude holy shit we got two classics in a single month.

Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist are known to have great chemistry. Alfredo kept me alive during COVID and I'm forever grateful for the classics like Something to Rap About and Babies & Fools. Fetti was also a great project. Unfortunately I haven't been the biggest fan of The Alchemist recently with the AI visualiser for his song with Erykah Badu but I have to put that aside today because some of the ... read more

Jane Remover - Revengeseekerz
96

This album is fucking match point.

Jane Remover has had one of the most interesting artistic trajectories in recent memory for me at least. For the past four or five years they've been switching up their sound almost from album to album and they've hit it out of the park every fucking time. Teen Week harkened back to their hard dance and hyperpop roots and then on Frailty they flipped the sound on it's head making the purist hyperpop sound we know today. It's close to what ... read more

Little Simz - Flood
85

This one is great. I just love everything little simz does. The production on this song is really cool and unexpected. It’s so refreshing to hear in the current rap space. She’s on 10 rn and I cannot wait for the album. The Obongjayar feature was great too it’s always great when they link up.

Jane Remover - Dancing with your eyes closed
100

She’s literally the fucking goat. Her single run has been generational and this one combines literally everything I love about her music while making something I wouldn’t have expected from her in a hundred years. The production is so fucking insane it’s not even funny. This was genuinely one of the best first listening experiences I’ve had with a single in a long ass time. I’m so excited for the album.

Lady Gaga - Abracadabra
90

This was so fire. I'm soooo glad the brat effect is already starting to take place. Pop is in such a great space right now and I'm excited to see what Lady Gaga does on her upcoming album. The bass sounds insane in this song and her cadence and attitude on the song reminds me of the Fame Monster era. I was not expecting to like this song THIS much. She's back on her bullshit.

Bon Iver - Everything is Peaceful Love
87

This is just a super solid song with literally the best vibes possible. I love the ideas with the production he's experimenting with here. Everything sounds amazing and I'm so excited for his next release.

93

This has grown to be one of my favorite FKA twigs songs. It feels so Bjork with the minimal techno beat. I love her vocals as always and the production is amazing. I love how these new singles stick to what FKA twigs is great at but also pushes boundaries. Great track and I'm very excited for the album.

Geordie Greep - The New Sound
95

Personally, I don't like how there's more than one reference to semen on this album. I don't like how there's even just one reference to semen on this album.

Geordie Greep needs no introduction. He's the ex-frontman from the very unfortunately now disbanded Black Midi, who were one of the most exciting and innovative bands of the 2020s. After their 2022 album, Hellfire, I was very curious to see where they went from there because in my opinion it was their most ... read more

Jane Remover - JRJRJR

Bro do I need to say anything else? This is the fucking goat right here. She can actually do anything and make it work I swear to god. This reminds me a lot of the Teen Week era stuff which is cool because I like those songs. I like how her sound has evolved from then into this. She's already doing victory laps and her career started like 3 years ago.

Edit: This is song of the year and its been two days. This shit is actually so fire it's not even funny. She's not playing ... read more

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
93

The cover is low key what it felt like to listen to this album ngl. It hurt. In a good way.

Magdalena Bay was a duo that I wasn't super familiar with before this album. I knew of them from their Mercurial World album but I didn't listen to any of their songs so when I saw singles like Image and Death and Romance getting great reviews I was excited to see what all the hype was about. Death and Romance blew me away. It was so good in fact I saved the other singles for when the album ... read more

Really respect this review."
On Furry music's review of Jane Remover - Frailty
"I think this could also be applied to other genres they pulled influences from like Pop Punk and Emo which also feels nostalgic at least for me because that's mostly what I would listen to for like a year or two in middle school/high school. I think a lot of that sense of nostalgia comes from the influences brought in on the album and the cozy and fuzzy feeling most of the songs bring. Even in the parts where it sounds like a wall of noise berating your ears. Amazing review btw! Loved how you brought up the safe space aspect of this album!"
On Furry music's review of Jane Remover - Frailty
"I agree. I think that during the time we grew up, a lot of pop music we heard on the radio was basically all we knew other than what our parents played. And a lot of elements of those songs and production were inherently electronic. Even indie stuff I grew up on like MGMT, some M83 songs, some Phoenix songs, and like Contra-era Vampire Weekend stuff had electronic music production styles and similarities. I think underscores has said some of her influences have come from pop music from that era which is why Wallsocket sounds the way it does. And with Jane Remover, sure the songs aren't as straightforward pop-electronic songs like Old Money Bitch or Locals, but there are still some indietronica elements to the songs."
