Glad I gave it multiple listens before scoring, because this thing just keeps growing on me. Such a cool combination of sounds. The subtle parts are just as powerful as the raucous.
The mixing is a little more bloated (intentionally so) on this one. It took my ears two or three listens to adjust. Having done so, this is probably their best effort yet. Like every other album they've put out, it's here for a good time and not a long time. I can't express how much I love Mike's songwriting format.
As someone that gave Household Name a 10/10, it took me a few listens to articulate what wasn't grabbing me quite as hard as Household Name did and I think the hooks feel a little more... just there?
That being said, this album does a good job moving on and having it's own identity. It feels stripped back, the riffs slap from beginning to end and, as always, Aron's production is on point.
Revisiting this album and I'm so grateful these two were able to tap into the compositional magic that made Sure Sure's music so visceral. Beyond excited to see what the future holds and hope the married life has brought nothing but happiness for Kevin.
We were promised a return to Trench and given an answer to the question "What if Paul Meany produced Blurryface?". So, that was disappointing.
The end of the A Mirror era. The boys had an impeccable run and the future holds tons more music from each of them, but I'm glad we got this closure.
Working my way back through the discography, after hearing the newest album. I am becoming a Liquid Mike Stan
From the very first song, I knew I was going to love this thing start to finish. Just pure power pop fun from beginning to end.
Fantastic blend of bubble grunge and a very nostalgic throwback to early Smashing Pumpkins. Hands down Momma's best work to date!
