Yoooo I remember acloudyskye. I first ran into this name in 2019 with the song A Drowning Cry, which I thought was alright. That was before I was on AOTY though, and I never really returned to this artist. I assumed this guy was still doing that style of atmospheric / kinda blown out EDM, so this was a complete surprise to me. This is clearly an evolution of their sound and I appreciate that, but There Must Be Something Here doesn't do much for me. It sounds like very run of the mill indie folk ... read more
WOAH WTF. Who are you Afriad Of The Dark? And where have you been? Stumbled across this album and I ended up really digging it. There is much depth and variation on display here. It feels like influences are being pulled from many different places. I can hear some jane on this, some underscores, quinn, draag me definitely (especially on deal w the devil). It's certainly rough around the edges, but there is so much potential going forward.
Some great ideas and some duds. Mixed bag but pretty promising stuff. My favorites are FREDDY FAZBEAR TRUNK, SLOWLY KILLING ME, SMOKIN' UNDER THE MOON, and I OWN THIS CITY.
Both of these songs are awesome. Nice little EP. I like hearing doin' fine on these types of beats. She ate up her second verse on PRETTYBITCHES.
STOMACH BOOK's self titled is one of my favorite albums and it set my expectations pretty high coming into this release. Unfortunately, I found this one to be quite disappointing. The title SOPHOMORE SLUMP ends up being painfully accurate. Many of the songs here feel like the B sides of her first album. I think my biggest issue is the lack of development in her sound. I was expecting to hear some growth and variation but the majority of the record comes off as recycled material -- both in the ... read more
Indietronica seems to be the way forward for many young hyperpop and digicore artists as they grow and mature. I'm pleased to find that glaive has hit this one out of the park.
Easy listening but didn't resonate with me too much. None of these felt like memorable bangers.
Yet another disappointing Quadeca project for me -- disappointing not because I ever really loved his music, but because I want to. This has the pieces of a great album but does not put them together at all. It completely misses the mark for me. It had no emotional impact on me whatsoever and is very forgettable. I can't recall a moment where I was particularly engaged. It's legit frustrating to listen to because it seems so close to being good but refuses to actually be good.
Quadeca is ... read more
Man, this is disappointing. I love a lot of mk.gee's other work but this album is so boring. It resembles a good album in form and function but this made me feel nothing and I'm already starting to forget it.
What an exceedingly enchanting listen. I just closed my eyes and listened to this all the way through. Maybe it's because I'm sleepy today but this album took me to another place. Early AOTY.
Extremely inconsistent highlights. There are some beautiful songs on this album and some that are completely forgettable.
Feels less like the 2020s hyperpop I was expecting and more like 2010s electronic pop. Pretty fun but not too impactful.
