I'm a sucker for this particular flavour of hyperpop, so I came into this album with high expectations, but I found myself consistently let down by small issues. The production in this album is great, but it's held back by some amateur lyricism and poor mixing.
The vocal processing on this album is very strange, resulting in the vocals almost sounding AI-generated. I know some AI-powered denoiser and voice changer effects were used on this album, so that could be the culprit. ... read more
I don't feel right giving this a rating this because I'm technically on it. It's pretty good, though
Nine years ago, Twenty One Pilots released their infamous cover of "Cancer" for Rocksound's Black Parade tribute album.
I view this album as a form of karmic justice.

If you're making a pop album, it shouldn't be longer than an hour. The album's still decent but definitely needs trimming
We are kinda back, I guess
This album has its low points, mostly in the second half, but when a track hits it's really good. I understand this album is enjoyed best with all of the lore and backstory to understand the various references spread throughout but I don't particularly find TOP's worldbuilding engaging so I'm taking these songs at face value. Overcompensate and Next Semester start off the album with a bang. I understand that it's a common trope to start an album off with a single to ... read more
Great album all around. Love the electronic and techno influences that are sprinkled through some of the tracks here. Some of the songs blend together for me but it's such an easy album to fall into that I can't complain.
One of the most Owl City sounding songs ever made and I mean that in the most positive way possible
Vylet Pony’s last album can opener’s notebook: fish whisperer is in the running for my favourite album of 2022 so to say I was excited for this album is a bit of an understatement. Although this album has grown on me over time, I found it to be slightly underwhelming. For those who don’t know, Vylet Pony creates music based on My Little Pony. Often her albums are concept albums telling stories of the various pony OCs she has created. I have never watched a single episode of My ... read more
A pop rock album infused with electronic production and a clear hyperpop sensibility. Trying to describe this album makes me feel like an out of touch boomer who uses “hyperpop” as a codeword for “a trans person made this” but that just shows how fast and loose underscores plays with genre. Hyperpop has been no stranger to rock influences, but I can’t think of any other artist who melds these two genres so seamlessly. Not all of the tracks are as strong as ... read more
Lil Yachty made a name for himself through catchy but usually unremarkable trap music so he was perhaps the last person I ever expected to make a psychedelic album. Just making this swing into a brand-new genre is enough to be commemorated but he manages to knock it out of the park and create a genuinely enjoyable album. Not every track on this album works and I do think it could have done with some fat trimming but overall, this album is still way better than it had any right to.

Where do I even start with this album? Perfect production, perfect lyrics, perfect performance. The first time I listened to this album I thought it was great and it kept on getting better every listen. Everything is top tier, even down to the sequencing of the album. The run from Kody Blu 31 to Can’t Make U Change is legendary. In fact, the whole album is legendary. JID brings bucket loads of personality to this project, and this allows the album to move seamlessly from braggadocios trap ... read more
One of the best albums of 2022 became even better. Melt My Eyez See Your Future (The Extended Edition) is a live album that reimagines a handful of tracks from his last record as jazz and soul fusions. The live instrumentation breathes new life into these songs and complements the original album perfectly.
Best tracks are Melt Session #1 and Mental.
This album's biggest sin is being 22 songs long, totalling 1hr 30m. It's second biggest sin is the fact that 7 of the tracks are basically instrumental, and the other 15 are about Matty Healy's love life which, overall, makes for an album I couldn't give a fuck about. There are shining glimmers of hope in tracks like People and Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America but overall this is a bloated mess I have no plans on returning to anytime soon. The epitome of "This could have been an ... read more
In this album, Ariana asks the daring question of "What if music didn't make you feel?"
An album with only about 2 real songs in, but those two real songs are great. The rest of the tracks are miserable sounding "dance" "songs" that aren't dancaeable and are more demos than anything. Also, the mixing throughout this album is almost ameteurish at points. Sweetest Thing saves this album though
To seperate the art from the artist, the art actually needs to stand on its own when seperated from the artist. You're all dying on this hill? This one?
