Matt Cardle - Letters
80

After winning The X-Factor in 2010, it was obvious that Matt Cardle would have to take a path away from his early years as an independent artist, parking around the easy-listening pop/rock/folk sound. Letters is not a new chapter in any of the genres used here, but Cardle's voice is so well tuned that it may make you forgive some clichés and paper lyrics, after all, it is indeed a good effort and easy to listen to.

Beyoncé - COWBOY CARTER
80

Beyoncé takes a ride blending country, blues, hip-hop, rock and other styles of the American South while pondering "what is genre anyway" to bring 'Cowboy Carter' to the frame. Although some executions don't prove their needs (Jolene didn't need any additional lyrics or Riiverdance is somehow too long), the main core is strong as a bull's back and her vocal performance is soaring through a big sunny sky in Texas. Yes, it's not a country album, but it's a Beyoncé album, ... read more

Ellie Goulding - Higher Than Heaven
80

Although there's no attempt to reinvent the pop wheel, Goulding is committed to giving the listener a stroll through a star-studded walk, where problems are nothing more than love situations.

60

Zara Larsson aims for higher peaks, but flies low with predictable vocal layers and languid production, turning on autopilot and not even leaving Earth, making reaching Venus a distant dream.

Paloma Faith - The Glorification of Sadness
60

Going through a divorce isn't an easy thing to live through, and even though Paloma tries to sound visceral as always, the production and some of the lyrics don't blend, exposing a lazy body of work, disappointing considering her raw voice and pontential.

Kaiser Chiefs - Kaiser Chiefs' Easy Eighth Album
50

At a time when bands are going against public expectations, or just returning to the sound of their glory days, Ricky & company decided to sound like the cheapest versions of department store soundtracks. It's hard to believe that any of these songs will survive in the fans imaginary.

USHER - COMING HOME
70

That might have be more songs that it needed, but it's a triumph after all these years for Usher.

Cher - Christmas
50

Cher, wrapped in a Christmas sweater, holds on to her old musical strengths throughout the album, but for every hit there's a miss.

Take That - Everything Changes
50

There's not enough production to save Barlow's lack of vocal swing.

The Killers - Direct Hits
100

Back and forth, from coast to desert, Direct Hits proves why The Killers became one of the biggest bands of the 2000s.

Róisín Murphy - Hit Parade
50

Hands down to the production, but it's not enough to save random moments of whatever Murphy was intending in this record.

Hilary Duff - Hilary Duff
25

Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts
60

Carrie's debut was an aim to crossover pop and country listeners, and somehow it worked. However, some songs sound repetitive, blended with uninspired lyrics or melodies, just taken by her vocals hoping that whoever is listening to it don't get tired through.

HIGHLIGHTS: Wasted, Before He Cheats and Jesus, Take the Wheel

Ed Sheeran - =
45

Equals (=) opens with Sheeran singing a rock-ish song about how fatherhood changed his life, and then a pop song about sex, and then stripping down to a folk song. That couldn't be a good sign. Overall, Ed Sheeran aims to reach every listener through the album's themes, but in the end he sounds like anyone but him.

ABBA - Voyage
70

It has been 40 years since ABBA's last full record. At least until now. Voyage has a hard target to mark. ABBA is now one of the greatest pop icons, shaping the way that pop music are done nowadays. Unfortanelly, some of the LP moments aren't glittery enough as used to be in the past. Overall, songs like "Just a Notion" and "I Still Have Faith In You" provides everything we need from ABBA in 2021. Voyage may not be what a lot people expected to hear, but its a living proof ... read more

Kylie Minogue - Fever
100

No ... read more

Adam Lambert - Trespassing
58

Trespassing is a confused album, running trough different music genres without making any connection between them, where Lambert's vocals aren't able to save the whole ship by the end of the day.

Juliette - Juliette
20

Jack Savoretti - Europiana
60

Who doesn't want a slice of a good disco cake, right? Even though Jack has a pleasing voice, something's off within this record. Maybe Savoretti can dance and have a ball, but not sure if he has enough groove to sing dance songs.

Pabllo Vittar - Batidão Tropical
80
