For how low the sonic fidelity this thing is, it is an amazing record. Little Fury Things has to be on the of the greatest openers of all time.
While not a groundbreaking change of sound for the band, Band of Horses continue to show their ability to write beautiful catchy indie rock songs.
When people say the Grateful Dead are lame, I immediately know they haven't heard this release. This album is canned lightning, straight up fiery performances from everyone here. Before the excessive drug use, right around when they were still actively taking LSD almost regularly, the improvisational creativity on display here is some of the best of their career and most certainly the most energetic.
I haven't listened to this yet, but the story of this concert is very funny to me:
The Dead went out of their way, spent half a million dollars, ($2,156,042.94 in 2022), to play at the Great Pyramids of Egypt. They planned to make this concert their next big live album release, but it never came out at the time because Keith's piano was out of tune the entire time.
When I listen to this, I'll follow up if the piano is noticeable or if the concerts were honestly good.
If I could bottle up the feeling this album gives me, I'd have a new vice. Instead, I only have the vice of collecting Dead records, constantly searching for another live album that can replicate this feeling.
