Anderson .Paak's Malibu is a really pleasant listen overall with a lot of beautiful instrumentation and melodies, and .Paak has a robust voice that can immediately get you into a song. The whole album is generally consistent with just a few tracks that I had issues with. Lite Weight is the first track on the album I had any issues with just in the sense that it really needed extra depth. I don't feel like .Paak had a real verse on that song where it was needed. Occasionally exciting, mostly flat. I was not a fan of the more melodic tracks on the album, which is a lot of it. I generally like the tracks where it feels like Che is going all out on overwhelming the listener with hard ass production and borderline melodic screaming such as ON FLEEK, LIP FILLER, HOOD FAMOUS, and DOE DEER. Ye has taken steps to better himself mentally and not be someone that's entire personality is built on ego and hatred and I can respect that assuming that it sticks and he continues taking steps. It is nice to be past the Vultures era because clearly this is a step forward. The problem is that there's still a void. Ye is very much focused on his image and how he's treated, but if he fully put out a big fuck you to everyone who's slighted him this album would have the same ... read more
