JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU

One of the most interesting albums I’ve ever listened to, the fusion of styles here is extremely impressive. I haven’t heard any other album that blends heavy guitar riffs and metallic bass lines with rap like this, the closest thing to it being slipknot on occasion. This definitely makes me want to listen to more of his stuff, with his vocals being another thing that really stood out to me. I liked his wording and phrasing a lot, again doing a great job at complimenting the ... read more

An interesting shift in style from Radiohead, this album feels abrasive and unapologetic when compared to their past two releases. Thom Yorke’s vocals are rougher and so are the bass lines, complimenting the rest of the instrumentation throughout as well as the overall tone. While being very consistent, my main issue is that it lacks standout songs. There are 2 that I see myself re-listening to a lot, those being ‘2+2=5’ and ‘Myxomatosis’. They’re very good ... read more

This album is the most 80’s thing ever and it’s great. It has some incredible peaks but it just doesn’t feel as consistent as I’d like from a band that has the potential to create such amazing songs. The far and away best song in the album is ‘Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic’, featuring amazing vocals and impressive drumming as usual. That’s something of note for the entire album really, Stewart Copeland’s drumming was on point all ... read more

I love the style of this album. It feels so good at doing what it’s trying to do, executing nearly perfectly on all fronts. Alex Turner’s vocals are as beautiful as ever, complimented by the sparse drums and soothing bass. This album is incredibly consistent as a whole, with each song flowing together seamlessly. The one issue I have with it is that the songs don’t stick out to me individually, almost feeling samey at times. That being said, it’s extremely interesting to ... read more

What a fascinating album. This is so far removed from my usual style that I’m hesitant to critique it, but I’ll do my best to say what I can. As expected the synthesizer is beautiful, making up the majority of the instrumentation in each song. While being great on its own, I feel that the synth was at its best when complimented by the bass, coming together in a wonderful harmony. Another great thing this album has is consistency, both in its style and in its quality. No songs felt ... read more
