Some of the songs feel like he is desperate to get back with Kim, like 530, which started alright, then sounded like he had drank and gone into the booth to make a message to kim, which is embarrasing, and i think that ye needs serious help, and his peers arent delivering it. most of the album is mid, the verses dont bring anything special 90% of the time and the song bomb is terrible.
The album just was not very good imo, Ty Dolla $ign didnt work 90% of the time, and kanye only dropped like 1 or 2 good verses across the whole project.
What is there to say that hasn't been said already? This is one of the most cohesive concept albums of all time, the way each song falls into place, is magnificent. The way you get hit with the shock of "u" after "These Walls" is incredible, deserves all praise, this is a massive cornerstone, not just of hip-hop, but of modern music as a whole.
I think that DAMN. is a very good album, it has massive highs with the likes of HUMBLE. and DUCKWORTH. but I think, as a whole, the album is worse than "To Pimp A Butterfly" and "good kid, m.A.A.d city", because it is harder to follow as you listen, it takes many listens to get to the good meat of the album, however, that is helped by the album being more, for lack of a better word, listenable than TPAB or gkmc. This album really falls flat for me, for the most part, the songs follow a similar sound, then when creativity is used, it isn't very well executed, the singing sometimes devolves into a Lewis Capaldi-esqe strained voice sound which is really off putting.
The only songs that were better than a 4/10 were Mine/Yours, Melatonin 130 and Oh Distant You, of which the latter is the best on the album.
The album is painfully pretentious, trying to find an audience, but is horribly made, and is devoid of creativity.
