Might write more at a later date but holy shit the discourse around this album has been insufferable. And the worst part is I do not get half the complaints. Yes Peggy uses that triplet flow a lot here but I don’t mind because that flow is so fucking good. And I think people are ignoring the fact that putting the Charlie Kirk song as the penultimate track is not meant to be taken seriously. We all knew there would be Charlie Kirk bars in the album, placing a whole song about him as the ... read more
I’ve been a fan of Kim Petras for a couple of years now, especially her early run of singles and the incredible TURN OFF THE LIGHT mixtape. But looking at her discography 2s years ago, it looked like she’d fallen entirely towards adhering to her label with her music growing more and more generic (unless it was one of the slut pop EPs but they’re a whole other discussion). And that sucked because we knew she had so much potential in the hyperpop adjacent lanes of Charli XCX but ... read more
Essentially a remix album that somehow manages to do so much more than what you would expect from a remix album. Essentially turning a bunch of NIN songs into techno bangers that feels like they belong right in a Berlin nightclub, NINz stays pretty faithful to some songs (Vessel, Closer and AAAYNMTB aren’t being flipped upside down in these remixes) whilst completely transforming others into completely different beasts (She’s Gone Away). The whole album is united by the harsh, ... read more
Miles above the original (counting the new expanded album and not the disc 2, although the disc 2 is also very good) and for my money the definitive version of this album. Fuck Kanye for laking Peggy cut this down, this extended version feels so much more like a JPEGMAFIA album and the new additions basically all go as hard as the original album.
Maybe one of the best produced rap albums I’ve ever heard, the beats are lush and constantly changing and exciting, Peggy’s verses are great, the vocals are mixed to perfection. Just such a great album.
By Storm continues the legacy of Injury Reserves last project in giving some of the most emotionally devastating, experimentally hypnotising and instrumentally explorative rap I’ve ever heard. An album with no boundaries and just raw expression.
Justice by way of Nine Inch Nails by way of Charli XCX by way of so much sex, money and drugs. Holy shit this bangs.
Easily the best album Travis Scott has made, but still not without some unbearably corny moments and a concept and storytelling that I find to be a bit too surface level. The production really is the bar for psychedelic trap music though and in its best moments it absolutely rules (90210 and Pray For Love for example). I will never take an autotune Travis singing "Poppin pills is all we know" seriously though
Look, this album is WAY too long and I get it never really takes itself seriously and can make some - lets say interesting - musical diversions whilst having a sound that's perhaps too consistent - but it generally has a great, albeit silly, sense of humour, great production and just has too many hip-house bangers to hate - even though most of the hate this is getting is definitely hate just for the sake of hate and not looking at the music objectively. "bag TF up", ... read more
The charm of a musical meets the chaos and action of a movie meets the disturbing underbelly of modern internet culture - Underscores' massive concept album perfectly balances hyper pop and indie rock bangers with stunning moments of vulnerability and pain. Songs like "Cops and Robbers", "Locals (Girls Like Us)", "Johnny Johnny Johnny" and "Old Money Bitch" absolutely hit even if their lyrics can be dark and disturbing - the quiet moments such as ... read more
Hot take, this is my favourite Kanye album. On TLOP, I just think Kanye is at top form in all the areas that make him work. The rapping is funny, impressive and showcases his personality to its fullest (easily the most Kanye album), the sampling is some of Kanye's most fun, the bangers HIT (Famous and No More Parties In LA specifically are just insane), and the more emotionally powerful tracks are some of most stunning, beautiful and moving songs Kanye's ever made (Ultralight Beam, ... read more
Some stunning compositions (especially that opening track holy shit), wonderfully catchy and gorgeous hooks, beautiful lyrics contemplating on death and the state of the world at the moment, some absolute bangers (Damascus) and some devastating mellow tracks (Orange County, The Sad God). Gorillas are truly back with an incredibly diverse and beautiful project.
Both extremely forward thinking but also lovingly inspired by the music that came before it, 'U' shows underscores at her snappiest, catchiest and most fun. Whilst its mere 34 minute runtime might have disappointed many fans of the grand and conceptual world created in 'Wallsocket' and it's director's cut, 'U' offers just as satisfying and dense of a world - but one that is more streamlined and immediate. Each of the 9 tracks is unique, memorable and an ... read more
Like of course it’s good but I forgot just how good this album is. So cinematic, emotionally compelling and full from front to back of absolute classics. Some of Kendrick’s catchiest hooks are across this thing, the production is varied and incredible, and it’s easily his most accessible storytelling - but that doesn’t detract from how powerful it is. You don’t need another person telling you it’s a classic, but like it really is.
Been coming back to this a lot and almost a year later I can truly say I now fully appreciate this album. Fucking gorgeous from start to finish with some of the most stunning and unique vocals I’ve ever heard. It’s ridiculously moving and great and maybe better than any Geese album.
Edit: There is nothing wrong with this album, it’s perfect. Stunning. Will write more.
An album from this year that’s going to fly completely under most radars, that hurts so much because Sorry’s 3rd studio album is the bands strengths fully realised into a project that feels like a kaleidoscope into darkness. There’s been some big changes since their last album “Anywhere But Here”. Their sound is now significantly darker and more distorted - but puts the band in a new and exciting territory that feels different to most of today’s indie rock. ... read more
One of the best rock albums of the year, Getting Killed is Geese on top form, with some of their catchiest and most beautiful but also most thrilling and exciting material we’ve ever heard. This is really the album that cements the fact Geese aren’t going anywhere.
Sounding like an angel in every single song, on top of some stunning production and instrumentation full of passion and feeling - ROSALÍA delivers a true standout album of 2025 that feels like grand, cinematic and beautiful journey. An album not concerned with fitting any label or restriction, but simply being as powerful as possible and it fully succeeds. It helps ROSALÍA is one of the most insanely talented vocalists I’ve ever heard.
Embracing the sounds of hyperpop and electronic music, and now completely sober, Danny Brown goes an entirely new direction on Stardust and it results in his most colourful and fun album to date - but one that still carries with it emotional weight and potency.
The optimism of Stardust becomes evident from the very first moments of opener “Book Of Daniel” with Quadeca - who just proves him and Danny are an unstoppable force together. It’s a super introspective track from ... read more
