Gets especially good when them vocal hooks start stacking

Jorge Ben - A Tábua de Esmeralda
90

Through its intriguingly stunning and psychedelic atmosphere, Jorge's one of a kind vocal performances with the wildest inflections, and warm but spiritual songwriting, A Tábua de Esmeralda is a whole journey and a half that's somehow packaged into 40 minutes of music.

Favourite songs: Errare Humanum Est, Os Alquimistas Estão Chegando Os Alquimistas and O Homem Da Gravata Florida.

Least favourite: Brother.

Vince Staples - Cry Baby
85

Cry Baby is quite the cathartic musical statement, an album needed more than ever in this day and age. Both sonically and conceptually, it's one the most powerful releases of 2026 so far, and Vince's strongest album in a fair amount of time. It's impossible to sit here and not enjoy an album that's effectively a giant middle finger to Trump.

Although I think there could've been more depth to the production, an album like Cry Baby has been long overdue, and I'm ... read more

Kim Petras - Detour
74

Detour's production alone is enough for Kim to make a positive impact on electro-pop's success in 2026. Although, her sudden rise in quality from 2025 onward, conveniently after BRAT, makes me think she may have taken more than just inspiration from it. I mean, just listen to her vocals on the title track.

Her vocals still glide over some catchy hooks on I Like Ur Look and Detour, and some of the better-written tracks like Brutalist and Korea may be the ones I come back to the most. ... read more

fakemink - Terrified .
51

Although I do admire fakeminks efforts to self-produce this whole album, Terrified's atmosphere is more muddy than realised, with his chipmunk vocals making the experience more and more grating. Not very much to unravel lyrically, and not very much to come back to sonically, bar a few tracks.

Favourite songs: Creep and Hard Candy.

Least favourite: Fire & Ice.

Boards of Canada - Inferno
88

Boards of Canada return with what we very much expected from them, but that's the furthest from a bad thing.

Their classic, spooky and unique sound design create an expansive, almost ominous world of immersion, but there's a statement to be made about how they can convey all those emotions, but also create an album of wonderful atmosphere and relaxation. It's truly an all-encompassing journey.

Although some of the shorter, more ambient tracks could have been cut to make the ... read more

Summers here, exams done, and some new blood orange......lovely 😎

feeble little horse - bitknot
80

feeble little horse have always been a band that has intrigued me since I first heard "Steamroller", an undeniably amazing song. I never had the time to get around to the album that song was on, but now a new album from them is here and this time round, I got the time to listen to it!!

I love the rocking instrumentation, and how the lead vocalist almost contrasts this energy with some laid back vocal performances that bring the whole thing together to this sweet but harsh experience. ... read more

Quadeca - Dark Magic

PUT THAT ON MEEEEE, AND DO IT AGAIN

µ-Ziq - Lunatic Harness
83

A pretty wild album, the peculiar synth work creates an almost uncomfortable, uneven atmosphere, before the drilling drums steal the show. Incredibly modern sounding, so impressive for its time, and overall, µ-Ziq showcased an unreal amount of innovation with Lunatic Harness.

Favourite songs: Brace Yourself Jason, Hasty Boom Alert and My Little Beautiful.

Least favourite: Wannabe.

Drake - ICEMAN
59

ICEMAN, despite such ambition, is your typical 2020s Drake album, with the potential let down by unnecessary bloat.

The bold and catchy batch of tracks unpleasantly contrast with the bland, boring and lazy batch, making you wonder where Drake would be if he knew he could put his best 12 tracks forward instead of throwing the whole vault in. This is still quite easily the best of the 3 albums released last week, but damn, if this is Drake's best foot forward, I don't know if I got ... read more

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP
72

Two years ago he released the best rap album of the decade. Now, in 2026, JPEGMAFIA suffers from being unapologetically himself.

EXPERIMENTAL RAP is dirty, nowhere near as meticulous as any other album from Peggy. This dirty and carelessly rough approach also mimics his recent attitude and personality online during the build-up of this album. Peggy is really separating himself from the rest in the rap game both sonically and physically, he recognises his unique selling point and decides to ... read more

Drake - MAID OF HONOUR
32

Dreadful, soulless, and yet another wasted opportunity for Drake to save himself. There’s no real reason this album or HABITI needed to come out. For an artist with such a massive budget, how is it not even mixed or performed well? It feels half-assed, overly safe, and sonically muddy, with only a few tolerable tracks. I'm now left relying on ICEMAN to save this whole mess Drake has created, which is damn near impossible.

Favourite songs: Stuck and Road Trips.

JPEGMAFIA - ¥ (Yen)

It's better. Still not the Peggy I know from ILDMLFY.

Drake - HABIBTI
27

Unfortunately, I still have to get around to the other two albums after this review...

There was absolutely no reason for this album to come out. This adds nothing to any landscape of music right now, and unless Maid of Honour or ICEMAN are appalling, this is easily Drake's worst album. It’s boring, repetitive, and damn near soulless, with Drake’s vocals sounding like they were ripped from a shitty FL Studio stem splitter.

Favourite song: Classic.

leroy - status update music
90

Jane Remover combines all of their singles from the past year under the name “leroy” into one LP and effortlessly creates the craziest album of the year so far.

Just like Revengeseekerz, this album dropped out of nowhere --- and yet again, Jane throws everything AND MORE into the mix, and YET AGAIN, it all comes together into something technically jaw-dropping and irresistibly energetic. I can’t even begin to grasp how your brain has to work to gather these hundreds of ... read more

Sora - re.sort

A truly beautiful and delicate album. Each soft and glitchy microsound sounds so honest and calming, really helping me achieve some long-needed tranquility. Incredibly impressive production and sound design for over 20 years ago, and I can definitely see where Porter Robinson got some of his Nurture inspirations from. That last track really tickled my brain in all the right places, and overall i'm just so happy I stumbled upon this album, as each track feels like a different living ... read more

demosoldier - London Tek
87

I’ve been really into this album for the past week, what a sugar rush of high bpm electronic and grime music. Through the sampling of popular UK artists like J Hus, Knucks, Fakemink and Dexter in the Newsagents--- Demosoldier has created a great album that perfectly encapsulates UK culture over the last 10–15 years.

There's even a J Hus Lucozade scandal sample in here lmaoooo, what more could you want!! What a vibe of an album, and I really appreciate demosoldier for making ... read more

Thaiboy Digital - Paradise
75

Although the four on the floor EDM style can get repetitive, Paradise is a pretty straightforward and catchy album. If you told me this was an album from 2013, I'd believe you. The synth arpeggios filtering in and out, the classic EDM buildups, and the heavy sidechaining---it's something we've all heard before, but the atmosphere of the production and Thaiboy Digital's unconventional vocals keep me entertained throughout. Cool experience overall.
