It's like Naked by the Talking Head but good. This album took longer to grow on me than their first, but after a couple of listens it clicked. The first half in particular is excellent. Compared to the first album, the backup singers are pushed back and the reggae influences are pushed forward.
Unfortunately KC&TC never released album like this one again.
A highly entertaining debut that throws a bunch of genres into a blender. The resulting smoothie is a tasty album with multiple impressive cuts, Maladie D'Amour, Yolanda, and Dario are my favorites.
A few of the songs have hilarious call and responses between August (Kid Creole) and his backup singers. This is seriously overlooked stuff!
Favorite tracks: The Empty Dream Machine, The Happy Dictator, Damascus.
Least favorite: The Manifesto, The Plastic Guru, Delirium. All in a row right in the middle of the album. Ouch.
Crazy sound for 1979. It doesn't miss for the first 4 tracks but gets inconsistent as the album progresses.
