Lucy Bedroque - Fête de la Vanille
95

Everything about this is so pretty; the composition, the melodies, it's all amazing.

Future - MIXTAPE PLUTO
65

As much as people are hating this, I can't find myself to feel the same. Even something like PLUTOSKI is more funny to me than anything. Future manages to find a way to make simplicity captivating; it's not like the production varies that much, but it's enough to make tracks distinguishable for me. The chill vibe to the album is enjoyable, and with it being only 44 minutes it's not that much of a commitment. It goes without saying that MIXTAPE PLUTO sees its highs and lows, ... read more

Future - Future Hndrxx Presents: The WIZRD
75

The WIZRD offers what you would want from a Future album. Catchy choruses, fun vocal performances, and dark production. Despite the length of the album, it's surprisingly consistent, but in that same regard, the length does take it down a tad bit. All things considered, Future sounds on form here, and offers a great collection of tracks.

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
100

Imaginal Disk has put more eyes on Magdalena Bay than ever, and it's clear to see why; the album has a dreamy and surreal atmosphere that the duo's work typically captures, but with Imaginal Disk the complete package seems more realised. From a single look at the cover art, you know what you should expect going into the album; it captures the essence of the songs perfectly. Mica's gentle voice compliments the serene production style perfectly as both solidify the psychedelic ... read more

Lip Critic - Hex Dealer
70

Hex Dealer is an assortment of many styles that blend together to make something electric and chaotic. The album is very abrasive, both on the vocal front and production. Some may want to compare parts of this to Death Grips, which is understandable as they have many similarities, but I believe this record scratches a slightly different itch; be it the more rave-inspired production, or the punk-like aesthetics.

Jean Dawson - "XCAPE", PT. 1 JEAN DAWSON AS "PHOENIX"
90

i would kill for a whole album that sounds like this

Logic - Ultra 85
80

This is a strange one for me, because half of me is kinda invested in the skits, but the other half wishes they were taken off entirely. But for Ultra 85, Logic does Logic things with his fast rapping over various production styles. I found a lot of the highlights to be with his more soulful production, for example on Ghost in the Machine which is a fantastic track. I do wish he cut out a lot of the outros of the songs where the skits play out, because as stand-alone songs they are fine, but ... read more

Not as adventurous as her other projects, but as far as pop music goes it's pretty damn good.

MAVI - shadowbox
85

In comparison to what I've heard from MAVI already this is an improvement on all fronts. The songs are very memorable, and are surprisingly accessible to the average listener, while maintaining the beauty of abstract hip-hop. The production is stunning and mesmorising; there are lots of details and care taken into small parts of the instrumentation which makes it a joy to listen to.

MAVI - Let the Sun Talk
75

Mavi is one of the growing artists in the abstract hip-hop scene. I think Let the Sun Talk shows a lot of promise in his music, as he has a lot of thoughts to lay out on the mic. The slick, laid back beats compliment his style very well in a similar way to many other artists in this lane do. I would like to see Mavi try make something that separates him more from his peers, and sticks more than it currently does.

파란노을 [Parannoul] / Asian Glow / sonhos tomam conta - Downfall of the Neon Youth
80

An interesting collaboration between the 3 artists; I had already heard of Asian Glow and enjoy their music, however, I am unfamiliar with sonhos tomam conta. There are some great songs here, but I find myself wanting songs that pack more of a punch.

beabadoobee - This Is How Tomorrow Moves
75

Not a bad album from beabadoobee. Some pretty sweet songs and good consistency in the track list, but nothing stands out too much. The pop rock elements are solid too, I just wish there was more ambition here.

JPEGMAFIA - LP! (Offline Version)
100

The Offline version of LP is regarded as a favourite among JPEGMAFIA fans and it's clear to see why. Peggy's unique style is one of a kind; the way he constructs and composes songs is like no other. I almost find this album to be strangely psychedelic, from the hazy synths to peculiar samples the songs are entrancing. Production aside, it is important to bring up Peggy's rapping on this project, which to me is stellar. His energy and flows are captivating and convincing while ... read more

Cities Aviv - Accompanied by a Blazing Solo
95

This caught me off guard. The one-track marathon album Accompanied by a Blazing Solo takes hip-hop to its most abstract form, where there is a mix of raw-sounding instrumentation and soulful sampling. From the outside looking in there isn't much separating this from other Cities Aviv albums, however, to me the way the album is presented in its single-song format allows it to envelop you in its ideas. I appreciate how personal the lyrics are, particularly towards the end where it feels like ... read more

파란노을 [Parannoul] - Sky Hundred
95

I'm sorry for ever sleeping on Parannoul. In Sky Hundred you get some of the most lush and beautiful soundscapes you are going to hear in the Shoegaze/Noise Pop genre; every song is powerful and moving, even though I don't understand the lyrics. The guitars and drums are heavy, and matched with the blissful pianos you get a great combo of intensity and serenity. If you want to keep an eye on any artist in the future, you would be stupid to not pay attention to Parannoul.

¥$ - VULTURES 2
25

This might be worse than Vultures 1. This is so painfully boring and unfinished that I feel nothing. I don't care that it might be less 'offensively bad' than Vultures 1; at least there were a few highlights on that album. This whole album is a waste of time and proves that Ye has nothing left creatively to offer.

JPEGMAFIA - Veteran
75

Probably Peggy's most experimental album; the instrumentals are weird and harsh, and his rapping is often in your face. This experimentation splits the success of the album, however, with some tracks landing the ideas while others don't quite stick.
