This is one of if not the most quintessential west coast hip hop album. The production is infectious from the second the beat comes in on G Funk Intro, which is a fantastic tone setter (I never knew that the beginning of Gin & Juice was some guy pissing. I always thought it was a drink being poured lol).

Feel like this is a perfect country album for someone looking to dip their feet in or as a recommendation for someone who doesn't like the genre as an entry point. I put this album off for a good while because of that "country" label but after listening I have say I don't think there's a bad track in this album. It is "Country Pop" and it does very much feel like it, a lot of the songs sound like pop with hints of country, ... read more

What wow'ed me the most about this album at first listen was how nostalgic it sounded without never having listened to it before. It's interesting that it came out in 1994 and a lot of r&b/pop in the early to mid 2000's sounds like this project. Mary J. "Five Man Army" is where the ... read more

Listening to this album is like jumping back in time, a lot of it feels like broadway or a musical even. The title track is a great start but I think the second half of the album is really where I was wowed. The three track run of “Feeling Good,” “One September Day,” & “Blues On Purpose” is incredible. “You’ve Got to Learn” might be my favorite along with “One September Day.”
