They didn't even name it Good Kid Album 1? Jokes aside, I think they did pretty well with CWHOST.
Good Kid's first album is a declaration of a lot of what the band has done well with their first four EPs. Lots of fun riffs, sprinkles of bossa nova inspired rhythms, and waxing poetic of love - really, pretty much the whole album are various love tracks. Man, all of my favorite indie-rock-indie-pop bands are all doing albums about love.
Though the lyrics here don't have a lot of ... read more
I'm Freaking Out is a pretty good record, but I do feel that Worry Club's sound is a little repetitive at times. I feel like they really hit their stride in a few songs off this record, but many of the others are ones that I'm not that excited to hear.
Something interesting about the record is that there's not really one or two consistent problems, but a few handful that either do or don't appear on songs. I generally think the higher tempo songs here are better, ... read more
Cicada is in line Good Kid's classic sound, but it's got a lot of good going for them. The guitar and bass riffs here give a real bouncy feel throughout the verses and post-chorus, before the chorus digs into a head-bopping groove.
I really love Mike's basslines and bass tone here - listen to the first post-chorus! The backing vocals that follow up Nick's work really well here; I'd be down for even more of this in the future.

Not particularly good or bad. I think the worst part of this album is that its slower tracks feel dull at times, especially when so many of them have a similar vibe. I think it says a lot that the highest rated songs are the most energetic of the tracklist here - Carla's song gets a thumbs up in particular.
I did enjoy the production a lot - the bass, synths, beats, and Harry's vocals themselves worked well for me.
I really think Good Kid could've achieved an intense sound without a silly amount of gain. This sounds like a slightly more punk take on their sound, but it's still mostly their normal sound with a crazy amount of gain over everything, like a grainy film filter over an instagram photo. Idk. I'm not a massive fan of this one.
