The first half is good, like really really good, feel like it starts to become a little forgettable towards the end.
Highlight - still feel. (for now)
There are two types of people in this world:
People that think this shit bangs.
People who are boring as fuck.
First time exposure and people are saying this is their worst album to date? PPC must make some banging ass music then because I thought this was fun as shit from start to finish. The high energy was consistently contagious while the more lowkey moments of the album were still great. While it's certainly not my favourite rock album of the year, It definitely provides some of the most fun within the genre. Bonus points for the fire as fuck cover art
Has no right to go as fucking hard as it does. Almost every song on here is an absolute earworm.
As "Alright" as pop-rap albums come. Incredibly inconsistent throughout with an occasional highpoint like "Nights Like This" and then some questionable features like whatever the fuck was going on with "Too Much."
Genuinely considered deducting additional points when Justin called Hailey his "Squishy little peanut." Icky.
It's nice and for sure an easy listen... but pretty situational. It also falls into the background pretty quickly due to a lack of high points. I find it pretty hard to think of a circumstance I would be in where I'd feel the need to return to anything off this.
Highlight - The Gathering of Deer
Apparently I never reviewed this? Never have I fallen in love with an album as quick as this one.
Kinda hard to critique this one at all. A fantastic fusion of jazz sounds and instrumentals. Went hard when I was pretending to study.
Highlight: Kasalèfkut Hulu (From All the Time I Have Passed)
Not perfect, but certainly moments of perfection sprinkled in. The production is so damn melancholic, dreamy and soul soothing. Potentially just missing one ingredient to put it over the top.
Highlight - Dimeback
When you say ambient you really do mean AMBIENT. A lot of it kinda faded into the background when I was gaming (I imagine it's supposed to do that) but what I caught was very ethereal.
The production rips, the instrumentation rips, the vocals rip, the lyrics probably rip aswell but I have no idea what any of these songs are about.
No THIS would be my favourite album if I was a teenage girl instead of a 25 year old male.
The influence is very apparent here and at times it shows potential to be just as good as the predecessors within the "toxic male r&b genre." Unfortunately, for a project that runs shy of 30 minutes, too many tracks come across as "background music on a late night drive."
Quite possibly, the most forgettable album of 2023. Not a single notable thing throughout the entire runtime yet never bad enough to be considered offensive.
Man I miss being 18-20 years old when this shit used to hit. So many albums from my 2017-2020 era just don't work for me anymore... At least, for the most part, the songs off this album that I used to love, I still seem to really enjoy. The others, really fail to evoke any sort of emotion.
