I’ve been learning No Surprises on guitar. It’s that good, and honestly if it only had Exit Music and No Surprises as the best songs on the album, I would still rate it at least an 80 for those two alone. However the entire album is amazing, and it flows super smoothly.
I don’t like this as much as I thought I did. And while this album is not bad by any means, and it will always have a place in my music exploration, it is not as great as I gave it credit for. I’ve listened to this album probably 20-30 times, and each time it just feels like something is missing. And I wanted so bad to love it, I convinced myself I did. Maybe one day this will click, but for now, I need to be honest with myself and how I feel about this album.
Hmmmmmm… it’s very very good. I just wish it had more singing. Because the lyrics and the singing are special *mwah* but the instrumentals on their own are less so. Don’t get me wrong, the instrumentals do hold up. They do hold my attention most of the time. It’s just that the songs are that much better with the words and singing, and I wish there was less instrumental sections to get to those aspects. Would probably be a 100 if it weren’t for Have A Cigar, which ... read more
Ehhh it’s pretty boring, has 3 good songs (first three) and then it falls apart
A good album. A good album, but not a great one. In terms of Kendrick growing as a person, it’s a great album, and I commend him for putting his inner life out there. As a listener, there are some misses on the second half of the album that prevent it from being better than good. Mother I Sober and Auntie Diaries are amazing, but I feel like they could’ve been put on the first part of this album. If those two songs were put on the first part, and the rest were cut from the second, ... read more
Last 3 songs kinda suck (hell of a life is okay) but everything else is really good, and the first four songs are amazing.
The best way I can describe the beats in this alum is to compare them to the cover of the Cherry Bomb Instrumentals- the drawing on the front is what these beats feel like. A little off-kilter but enticing all the same.
Side note- I really like Kendrick’s voice. I find it very sexy. This is an album by a very sexy man, who is making sexy music for the masses. Pop sticky tracks like “LOYALTY” and “HUMBLE” remain interesting through the use of strange beats and ... read more
This is pretty good but it could’ve been better. Needed another song or two like Skinny Love or Flume honestly, but very very good. His voice is amazing, his melodies are extremely earhooky, and I’m a sucker for acoustics so there’s no way I couldn’t like this. I recommend.
One of Frank's beliefs here, at first glance, is to focus the majority of one's time on pleasure. This is apparent in lines in "Sweet Life"- “Whatever you like, whatever feels good, whatever takes you mountain high, keepin' it surreal”, and he states you should deny yourself nothing- “Not sugar-free my TV ain't HD, that's too real”. In addition, it seems he wants to keep his life focused on the pursuit of pleasure, and not to keep himself focused on things that ... read more
