I’m back due to a request from Alice Longyu Gao herself to review this new EP of her's.
Like Alice’s discography up to this point, the lyrics often deal with being fame, envy, and angst. The production backs this up with the heavy drums and bass (not the genre) on album opener "100 Boyfriends" and the pulsating beats on "Bleeding in the Studio". I could do without the sick sound effects but otherwise it’s a song that is well produced and sticks in your head.
There’s not much substance here and the vocal effects are grating.
This song gets pretty annoying quickly and is trying so hard to be deep but it’s not very hard to tell what the track is talking about.
It’s pretty catchy and sonically creative. Even though the counting trope has been overused at this point, Melanie pulls it off in a way that doesn’t come off as annoying.
