Salisbury and Barrow's soundtrack captures the mind warping horror of area X perfectly.
Some really great songs on here but a couple really bad songs weigh down the project, the ratio of good to bad is greatly improved since BALLADS 1 however. I especially like the world Joji created in his music videos for this project (excluding Daylight fuck that song), Gimme Love and ESPECIALLY Sanctuary are beautiful short films.
Joji's first album that's consistent front to back, doesn't quite hit the highs of a song like Sanctuary, but never hits the lows of a Daylight either. Once again a music video is the best part of a Joji project, Glimpses Of Us has a beautiful short film on self destruction attached to it that frames the song in a completely new light.
Brian did the fusion dance with PUPPY and the outcome is pretty cool. Might fly under the radar given the lack of promotion and 6 year gap since his last album, but it doesn't deserve that. This is a good album and Brian's best, even if it's inspirations are very transparent.
It's a shame the grand production is mixed so flat because this could have had some real impact. Chance is capable of great vocal performances, which makes the often grating singing on here extra frustrating. However, there is some solid writing and production work on STAR LINE despite the frustrating mixing diminishing the impact, distilled down to its best and remastered there could be a good project here in my opinion.
This + Fancy Pants Adventures on my 2000s imac. I love this album with all of my heart.
Falls a bit flat. It's self aware of how corny it is, I know, but that doesn't mean I want to bear witness to it. Still, the singles are class.
The only time I've been genuinely scared by an album.
