I felt like I was touching grass more listening to this album than I have on actual multi-hour walks through nature
Just finished the vinyl, hearing Alpha, Intro, Blind Spots, and The End play through an actual stereo was heavenly. I legit think I love this even more than volume alpha. The songs are so textured and expansive and the atmosphere is honestly unmatched. Also taswell is a 10/10, that song is probably 75% responsible for this rating if I'm being honest. It didn't click on my first few listens but once it did, that song was fucking there for me every time I've gone back to it over ... read more
I haven’t listened to it yet but this might be the greatest album cover of all time
I randomly looked outside around 7pm a few weeks ago and saw the most bafflingly beautiful sunset I’ve seen in years. I’m talking strong pinks and oranges and deep reds intertwined with thick streaks of clouds covering essentially an entire half of the sky, the typa shit you’d see animated in a Pixar movie, possibly even prettier. It felt supernatural, what I was seeing, like I was moments before the end of the world or something. I could tell the sun was already about halfway ... read more
I’m not huge on math rock but there was something about the instrumentation and atmosphere of this album that pulled me in hard. Despite most of this being instrumental, each song feels like it’s telling some kind of story as it progresses, and the way each instrument remains distinct and unique while blending well with the rest of the mix makes for one of the most engaging album experiences I’ve had in a while. And when I say each instrument is unique I mean it feels like ... read more
Was browsing the rabbit hole of new releases a month ago and listened to this EP cause I thought the cover was funny. First few songs were super fun and campy and I thought the gradual pivot into the more introspective stuff toward the end was relatively well executed, especially the wake up motif that connects the start and end of the EP. There's not any subject matter or overarching themes he goes into here that are exactly uncharted territory or anything but the last two songs ... read more
I’ve kinda dismissed Dev’s music as not for me in the past but holy damn this album delivers, especially in the first half. Nice Try, Broke Your Cover, and Media Train are absolute bangers that I keep coming back to (seriously the last minute of Nice Try is so good). The production on here is insane too, really awesome sauce cool stuff. My main gripe with this is album is as it delves into the quieter ballad-y songs the memorability tends to wear off a little bit, especially with ... read more
I listened to this purely because I saw Geordie Greep mention it in an interview and now every time the outro to The Downtown Lights kicks in I think of The Magician
I’m so sleepy so ima not rate it yet but I thought it was pretty good I liked the sixth song a lot cause it had cool instrumentation but also I wish House Tour was earlier on the album cause that leading into Goodbye is a super jarring and sudden tonal shift but otherwise pretty cool 7/10 experience I’d say. Y’know what fuck it I’m rating this album a 70, I changed my mind.
Speaking of 7, track seven huh. Really makes me wanna getting laid down in bed to go to sleep ... read more
One of the coziest listening experiences I’ve had recently. Twirl Planet Twirl, 4am, and (especially) Diamonds in the Snow were sick. Perfect 9pm driving music
Holy damn, some of these songs are the most depressingly beautiful pop I've ever heard. Meanwhile Student Demonstration Time is just happy to be here ig
I started this in January and didn’t get past Dancing In Babylon until just a week ago and holy shit this album’s incredible. For those seven-ish months I was pretty much replaying Mother Nature and (occasionally) Loss Of Life Pt 2 while being too intimidated to take on the rest of the album so those two songs kind of set the tone for my expectations on the entire rest of the album.
The second half of the track list is so much more melancholic than I expected, like the soundscapes ... read more
This is the coziest immense discomfort has ever sounded
Siberian Breaks might be solely responsible for MGMT becoming one of my favorite bands of all time, it's one of the most absurdly relatable songs I've ever heard. The rest of the album's pretty good too
This felt like a 7/10 album with a 10/10 ending. That being said I’m very optimistic I’ll like this more with future listens since the singles have already grown on me a great deal since they came out.
Edit: I like this more with future listens
